Red writing datejust

Hi everyone,

I saw this photo of an early datejust online, and was just wondering your thoughts on the dial?

Was it common to have the 'datejust' in red writing? - could this be original?

Also I have not seen the 'by official test' before- at first glance I thought it was a retailers name (but I guess not).

I'll try to get some more photos, and add them when able.

Thanks!

Nice! I believe that is original. Here's a somewhat similar Day-Date, with red text and "superlative chronometer by official test" at the bottom.

It does appear untouched from that photo. The band is also interesting.

Red writing datejust

The red printing was quite common in the 50s, I like the red depth rating on the 6294s and 6565s the best.

Thanks for the help everyone!

@powerfunk - that day date looks wicked.

I guess it goes to show I have a lot to learn about vintage rolex.

Thanks!

Some more photos for thos interested :)

I know we don't really talk about value on this forum, but if someone could PM what I'd be looking at paying for something like this I'd really appreciate it. Does the red writing and 'by official test' make it more collectable?

Thanks!

very rare being a lefty! I didn't get the chance to check whether it was a true piece or an inverted dial. I believe it's all correct as it was also sitting next to a full set PN 6239!!!

Red writing datejust

Hopefully Crowncollection will chime in.

Rolex made some bracelets in funky styles way back when (I don’t know if that’s one of them but it might be). All in all, I’d say that’s a pretty rare and valuable dial and hands combo, with red date wheel to boot.

Thanks for the input guys!

I like it, and will most likely make an offer- just not sure how high though.

Cheers!
