Surprised by the Datejust 41

I was running errands today when I came across an AD and decided to check inventory. Their displays were quite thin and they told me they have no idea when sport models are inbound from Rolex. They have yet to get any new models from Tudor as well. They were told that BB GMTs and BB58s would arrive this month but no firm date was given.

They had a handful of Datejust 36s and Day Date 40s. They also had one Datejust 41 Rolesor with the smooth bezel on oyster. (I think that’s a Ref 126301). I remember trying on a DJ2 around 2012. I didn’t like it at all. I asked to see the DJ 41 and had no expectations but on wrist (6.7”) it actually looked good. The lugs actually looked less chunky versus the 36. I also noted that it was thin for its case size, which I liked.

Dealer wanted the equivalent of US$ 12,000. I don’t know if that’s a good price but it was certainly a good watch. She also mentioned that the last Explorer II they sold went for $7900 and the one GMT everose rolesor they ever got sold for $16,300.

I’d definitely prefer the DJ41 in steel. I don’t know what Rolex plan for this model but I think it would look great with an engine turned bezel similar to what they used on the 115210.

All in all, a brief yet surprising experience at a nearby AD.

Rolex have really refined the model with the introduction of 1263xx series.

I agree and I'm SO GLAD I waited for the 1263xx. The 1163xx didn't fit my puny 6.75" very well at all. A great reference, but the newer DJ41 fits seamlessly on my wrist. Plus I really like the fact the case size is thinner and newer updated movement.

Just picked it up pre-owned from a local AD. The exact reference I was looking for. AD claimed the gent only wore it a handful of times and and then he landed a blue Skydweller and needed to unload the DJ41.....just got lucky I guess.

I went through a couple DJII’s too and like the 41 better.
Here’s blue dial with jubilee and smooth bezel on a 7” wrist

Having owned a number of Datejusts over the years the DJ41 finally ticked all the boxes for me. My personal search for the perfect reference is over.

Absolutely STUNNING indeed. You're correct, it does tick all the boxes for a longtime wear. Will never go out of style.

Thanks for sharing

Dj’s A great watch.. it doesn’t get all the hype the sports models get but overall build is excellent and they’re more available.

The DJ41 is a beautiful watch. Is the Rolesor you're considering the YG or RG with the chocolate dial? That is one of my favorites. The Rolesor SS/WG with the blue dial like tegee26 and mjclark32 have here is also real sharp looking. That is another favorite of mine and I truly would have a tough time choosing if both were in front of me and available. If the DJ "sings" to you, I think you should go for it!

I love my 41 white dialed fluted with jubilee.

It may be redundant in a collection but I am anxiously waiting for a blue dialed two tone with yellow gold fluted in a jubilee. I think that combination is amazing.
