I have both. After wearing the 6519 all week, I wear the 6500 on weekends. I think if the 6500 was gone you wouldn’t miss it.

Although my point was not about dd40 per se, OP is not even interested in it. So I won’t comment further on that. If money is not an issue, the Daytona on OF is an amazing piece and definitely a buy. But flipping the 116500 to acquire it would be a no go for me. The 116500 is a keeper.
I wasn't - I was comparing MSRP of both. You are comparing grey market pricing.

AD pricing would still see DD40s priced significantly higher. And most people buy new Rolex watches via the AD network.

It's so much about personal preference. Personally, I much prefer SS to PM for all models. If you like PM better, then this seems like a great time to sell the 16500.

I have both 116500 black dial and 116519LN. If I could only have 1 it would be 116519. And I would sell the 116500 for 116519.

I'm a PM guy but this is a harder decision than I'd have thought. I probably would do it, but that OF pic does show the hands are hard to see on the subdials.

I keep oscillating back and forth on this one. Now that I no longer have my Patek 5164, I'd be more inclined to add a Rolex on rubber strap, specifically this WG OF model. At current market prices I could just flip my 116500 and add a few thousand to get a PM piece, which I've never owned.

Exactly, man you don’t know how hard to get these white ceramics. Don’t sell it because you will truly regret it

I would ideally keep the 500 and add the 519. Both are amazing, but the 519 is just that much more amazing IMO. If I had to only have one, it would easily be the 519. It’s my favorite Rolex model hands down.

Personally I’d not part with either of my 116500’s as for me they are the best Daytona’s made!

You gotta do what you gotta do, but...think it over long and hard.

If you can afford to do it, your best bet is just to buy the OF outright and then see which one, if not both, you want to keep.

The 116519 is beautiful, but the 116500 white is epic. No other Daytona trumps it, imo.

I would not part from my SS Daytona for a PM model. Especially considering they are so difficult to source at a decent price. I would save and add the WG on OF.

Damn, black hands on a black subdial. I hadn't focused on that before. Not that I use the chrono a lot on my watch, but the 116519 subdials would be awfully hard to read in anything but direct sunlight.

Still it's a beautiful piece.

This picture does one of the best jobs of showing how amazing the dial is. Its still better in person, so many different shades dependent on the light source.

Thanks very much guys for the very helpful comments, been reading this thread all day. And I have decided to keep the 116500! I just keep thinking, I love the 116519, but if I regret selling the 116500 I know it would be impossible to buy it back again at a good price.

What was really tempting was I could sell the 116500 and just a few bucks because of the current market price of the 116500 and people saying I can buy back in 2 years, but I used my 116500 today and this is just such a beauty. And I am not sure if I can buy back at lower price even 2 years from now because I remember when this first came out, people were saying wait for a couple pf years prices will normalize, but from Asia, the price of this piece keeps rising every few months, which was a key factor for me to keep this piece.

I got to admit, the thought of owning a PM daytona was really enticing, but I told myself, do I really prefer the design of the 116519 over the 116500 or do I only like it because I will feel better because I know I have a PM piece? Well the 116519 is beautiful no doubt, the only Daytona Oysterflex I would ever consider, but 116500 white dial esp on the oyster bracelet is more versatile.

In the end, I really hate passing on the 116519, because I don't know when I will get the chance to own it again, but I guess I just got to save up for it! Anyway I was being asked to pay almost close to MSRP for it, and I feel that in 2 years time, there is a better chance of me getting the 116519 at better price than I do the 116500, not to mention the availability.

All the inputs from everyone are very much appreciated. Such a great forum where people don't hesitate to share their 2 cents with fellow watch lovers

Thanks for that. Seeing a couple of pictures on this thread, it looked dead black. But after reading your post, I looked on Rolex.com and you are absolutely right.

Yes, contrast is good IMO. The original picture I posted just had poor side lighting. Here’s a picture in different light

Thank you, and agreed. Pictures do this watch no justice, it must be seen in the flesh. So many amazing looks to this watch depending on the lighting.

I'd definitely be open to that. The SS Daytona is very nice, but the WG Daytona is a different kind of cool. Plus, the SS would net you a nice profit at current prices, so the values aren't too far off.

Sound reasoning and I think the right choice, save for the WG.

It also comes down to do you want to keep the 500 because people are telling you it’s hard to get and this you feel compelled to keep it. Or do you truly love the 519...

I often fall victim to the hype as well and maybe purchase watches due to market demands. In the end, full satisfaction is doing what makes you happy

I’d keep the ceramic. Get an oysterflex for it. And go for the other down the road
