I’m in the camp of 5726 white and then trade your 5726 grey on strap for a 5164 on rubber

i can almost guarantee u will get over having two 26’s if u were to make this trade. we’re not talking about having the same multiples of shoes or pants or shirts, as cited. when it comes to watches, we know that something shiny/new always piques our interests every 6mos or so (if not more frequently!), at which point we make the mental tradeoffs of pieces that we previously thought were always safeguarded!

case in point for me...my 15202 that i thought was my grail...no longer.
the FPJ CB that i thought was the next big model that should be held onto...no longer.
both those i fairly regret now...and have since re-purchased one of them!

my point being, ur taste will continue to evolve. unless u have an end-game piece (which IMO is a myth, we’re all kidding ourselves!), ur going to go thru this process inperpetuity.

but isn’t this why we’re so infatuated with this crazy hobby?

the charm of having both 26s will feel cool for a few months...then something else will catch ur eye, and you’ll wonder “um, do i really need both??”
save yourself the trouble now...keep the iconic 11. and if anything, figure out a way to get ONE 26 with a full bracelet.

It took me awhile to like the 5711...

That said , the only thing I'd be concerned about is
getting the best bang on resale for your 5711 where
it's a win for you Seth... The 5726 does look nice...

Looks like your mind is already made up on this one, and honestly it’s a great option so would be easy to say go for it.

But just taking a step back, it does seem like your taste is quite stable in other areas; but in watches it’s still evolving. Honestly I think taking pause and some time to figure out what the end game is could be worthwhile as moving too fast between options may not end up in satisfaction. But then, this is coming from someone who gave away my second watch as I wasn’t wearing it enough to keep it around, so am at the other extreme of the scale completely when it comes to watches.

Why?

Do stockbrokers even exist anymore?

And my FA is the $ucking best. But that’s another tale all together.

All, thanks very much for your feedback. This thread was incredibly helpful for me.

I’m new to PP and wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something. It appears I’m not.

I get that some disagree with my choice, and I appreciate that. Everyone’s got their opinion, and I respect it.

To me these watches are light years apart. And I love the complication. I also like consistency. So if it all looks good at the time, I’m all in. And I’ve a sneaky suspicion it’ll all work out well, however it works out.

But again, I’m super grateful. Thanks for the feedback.

I know you have made up your mind but I would personally just sell the 5711 if it doesn't move you and wait for the 5164 to arrive. Not a fan of buying pateks that have been refinished by third parties.

Sure they exist and they work on commission.

But yeah brah, you do you.

It’s fairly typical when new to this brand to be “underwhelmed” by simpler references and drawn to complications. Not much bang for buck on the three handers. Patek makes such pretty complications don’t they? See the other new owners post about being bummed about his 5167.

But why would a dealer give you 100% of your value for the 5711 to move a refinished AC?

Interesting.

I’m mostly a long term investment guy. In that regard, I don’t hop too much. If at all (not including a recent exodus buying a house, but also another story) Watches? That’s another level. Clearly, I’m pretty spontaneous.

I can relate to what you say about the complications.

That all said, help me answer that last question. That’s what I started this thread for. I imagine you are saying there is a problem with the AC? Would genuinely appreciate your thoughts on it.

Appreciate this feedback too.

Based even on the picture anything needed is super minimal. But truly, if I see it and have any concerns, I’ll walk without a second thought. It’ll need to look perfect.

Exactly. And those marks on the bezel appear to be on the edges, he will have to remove material to get them out, no way around it. Sell the 5711 and buy what you want. Or buy what you want and figure it out later. But giving you what you paid for the 5711 to move the AC? All seems suspicious and I would let no other than PP refinish my pieces.

Appreciate yours and Brian’s feedback.

And thinking I might actually pass, based on this alone.

But I’ll check out what it looks like and see. Super grateful for how helpful you’ve been throughout. Really do love the 5711. Wish it was slightly bigger. But it’s a magnificent timepiece.

Probably easier for the seller to move the 5711 (might already have someone). You seem to have made a decision already. You like 5726 more than 5711. So you should do what makes you happy. What’s interesting is if you had a blue or white 5711 and wanted the other I don’t think most people would be against it.

Seth, I would pass on this deal. I wouldn’t want this guy polishing my Nautilus.

Instead, I would ask your AD to put you on the list for a new white dial 5726/1a. You will build additional buying history with him, and in the time it takes to get it, you may even find other Pateks that pique your interest. You may even begin to bond with your 5711/1a white. It’s such a great watch. Good luck in the decision.

My 2 cents. I have a white 5711 that I got few months ago. I am also considering upgrading to white 5726 mainly because of annual calendar complication and value of money. If white 5726 speaks to you more, by all means go for it. However, please do not let anyone else except Patek refinish the watch. You may lose $1-2k on getting it polished directly from Patek but you won’t even notice it.

Nope nope - please don’t trade the 5711- it can be sold easily for lots more. I have one (white face)and after 2 years still is my most frequently worn. I would not buy a PP refined by anyone but PP. They will not get the edges or the texture lines on bezel right . When you decide to trade or sell it will be very difficult to sell, if refinished by non- authorized dealer. Just some thoughtsWish you the best.

Even if the refinish wasn't on the table, new 5726 on bracelet sells for over 50k and you are getting out of this swap for under 5k? If it walks like a duck..... ya know.

Seth,
I have variations of the same watch and the dial
color makes them different for different moods. How many subs or gmts to people own for example.
If you are happy with the 5726 by all
means get a different dial color. Being on a bracelet with a different dial color will seem
like a different watch.
I am not one to speak I trade often trying to find the right mix for me, if there are redundancies. I also know once a watch is close to being traded or sold it eventually gets traded or sold. If it’s not now the 5711 will be history soon.
The trade seems fair for you .
Further, if you think the 5711 feels
small the 5164 will feel just as
small. A 5524 might be a better GMT for you.
Best of luck.

Was thinking the same as well. Went up and compared mine and knew the 5164 was slightly taller but it's not that large of a difference.

^^^

This itself is very interesting. I’ve not seen one in person. These pateks are hard to find. But I absolutely loved the 5167, just felt it was a tad too small.

Similar to how much I love the 5711, but just feel it’s a tad too small. Just s bit too thin.

Makes me think again that this move with the 26 might be the right one after all.

I’ve taken to heart the feedback about the finishing tho. Thinking I might just take it as is, and send to Patek myself. Get a full service.

The similarities bother me not. It’s the potential to get a sub par watch that bothers me now.

Seth just be prepared to be without your recently acquired watch for a long long time if you bring it in for service. Patek will not just refinish the bezel , needs to be part of a complete service ,so the wait time will be a few months or longer.
My 5980 under warranty ,which receive priority, is still away , expected wait time 6 weeks . Already been 4 and they are still awaiting parts.

This would be a wise move. Just enjoy the heck out of the 5726 on the rubber strap while the new watch is away!

Okay. So latest thought process.

The watch, even based on the picture this watch is in good shape.

To the eye, it hard to see blemishes.

Thinking I’ll buy it as is and wear it for a bit. Then send off to Patek.

Thinking this’ll be the best bet.

But boy, nothing is ever easy.
