Chipped sapphire crystal advice
Hi guys.
I recently picked up my new Rolex datejust41 and have had it for about a week. I noticed a small mark on the lower corner near the pet the crystal is raised. I’ve only got around to realising now it’s not dirt etc. But actually a minor chip / scratch. Any advice on what to do? Follow up with AD or leave? Leave it imo you hit it on something. Doubt it came from the ad like that but watch back your blog video to confirm.

If its on the surface it shouldn't be a problem. If its close to the case get it pressure tested. If it fails, you'll need to send it in.

If it were me I’d do something about it. Is this something you did or the way the watch was sold to you? If you think it came that way try to see if you have any photos you took that day or even at the AD with it on your wrist, mainly so you can prove that it wasn’t something that happened after you left the store.

Enjoy the watch, even a full replacement if you decide on it won't cost you too much

I'd at least get it pressure and time tested to make certain there is no other problem from the wack. That is cheap assurance. If it bothers you let Rolex repair it.

See if it's keeping time. Leave it alone, wear the watch.

If it bothering you, send it to Rolex to replacing the crystal, otherwise wait and have it replaced when the watch is in for serviced.

A new crystal is the only way to fix that.
Cheap enough so if it bothers you have it replaced

Its quite common for chips on the edges of most all of the Rolex line up but myself would leave it till service time to have it changed if needed.

On most scratches and minor blemishes I advise leave it alone. But for the crystal I would have it repaired. The AD might be able to do this onsite and have little wait time. If not they will send it in and it will be back and right.

If it drives you nuts get it fixed (~$350) if it doesn’t wait till service. IMO

I had to really search to find it. My advice, wear that beautiful watch until service time then replace the crystal when they take it all apart. I wouldn't give that almost impercetible nick a moment's thought.

Leave it, have had a chip at 10 o'clock in my Explorer II sapphire crystal for over 30 years. Doesn't compromise the performance of the watch.

Leave it. I have similar ding on my SD, since I fell of the bike, I can't even see, just feel it with my fingernail.
I have that rule, based on decades of life experience: every time they "fix" something, there is 20% chance they will break or damage something else - be it cars, major surgeries or watches. Happens even at the factory. |

Had one just like it on my OP. Wore it from 2005 to 2012 like that. Had it fixed during its service. At the time, the price was $125USD.

I'm going to go against the grain here.
After just one week it would bug me. Get a quote for a new crystal. It won't be as bad as you think. |

This isn’t necessarily true. If you hit it hard enough to chip the sapphire then you hit it hard enough to disrupt the crystal gasket. If the watch was to have water damage in the future and it was found to be from the crystal gasket, this repair would not be covered under warranty. I’d probably get it pressure tested but I wouldn’t just throw my hands in the air and assume “it doesn’t compromise the performance if the watch”

I’d leave it. May DD36 has one too. Does not bother me anymore.

Back to the topic. It is a small mark, I wouldn't worry. Dings happen... Wear it and replace down the line.

If you think that you did not bang it and looks like not I would try to warranty it thru Rolex Service Center. It is a new watch not a preowned.

You posted a pretty highres movie the other week and if you can spot it in the footage then its definitely a warranty thing. But it does look flawless in the video so Im guessing you bumped into something.
