I've been known to ride a mile or two. My avatar is atop Mt Haleakala in Maui. You ride?

That must have ben quite the ride up Dan!I saw the sunrise there a few years back and it stands out as one incredible experience.

I don't ride much anymore as I have some low back issues but used to ride a lot...did Ironmans, century rides etc.

Miss those days very much.

Very nice.
Yeah, the climb was in 2006 and took 5 hours, 4 minutes to ride up and another hour back down. Ride of a lifetime. I really started to get serious about cycling a little over 10 years ago. Just turned 50 and need to maintain the saddle time. I'm dealing with neck issues too, it's hell getting old.
I do century rides but you're much better than me participating in Ironmans. Good for you.

Pav,
Actually, the downhill was painful because your hands and feet would go numb maintaining the same position coasting for 38 miles!! On the straightaways you would hit speeds of 40mph and once I approached a switchback going a bit too fast and almost went right over the side of the mountain.

Great photos Dan...thanks for sharing!

I know what you mean about LONG downhills.....did an organized ride up Mount St. Helens once and the downhill in the cold and fog just about did me in!

Poked around trying to find a biking shot on this computer...here's one from Ironman Canada going up Richter Pass:
