If the item was priced correctly in the first place the offer wouldn't look so low. Also, if you bump your listing for months and even years in some cases a lowball might be the only way to get out of what you are selling. When you sell you make money over the duration and not completely off the one item. Lose some here, gain some later. The lowball serves a purpose.....just like over pricing.

I just want to say career lowballers have no place trolling the classifieds, but regular buyers who throw a low bid out after doing research should not be labeled as lowballers.

Part of the game. Happens all the time, not only for watches, as I am into photography as well and every time I try to sell a piece of gear someone always want to pay 50% of fair asking price. Don't let it get to you.

I would if I deem its ridiculously low. And if you have to ask what I mean by ridiculously low I think I made it clear in this thread. Also, what pedestal are you talking about? We're not talking about quarter mil Pateks or half mil baguette APs. This applies to anything bought and sold. It's not rocket science for one to see Lowballers are not on top of the seller's welcome list.

And regarding bobswatches, my brother sent me a screenshot of the cashed check from bobs. I redacted the info for privacy of course.

Anytime you sell a high value item on a public forum you need to have thick skin and a sense of humor! If getting lowball offers is the worst you ever have to deal with in selling, consider yourself lucky. Personally, I just laugh them off and move on and I have had my fair share.

I don't like low balls myself. BUT, when I put up a watch for sell, it is my responsibility to get back to everyone and deal with low offers with some degree of grace. An offer is an offer after all and it comes with the territory.

Is the OP your brother? Is this the same watch that he posted here?

Someone asked me if I have experience selling to bobswatches. I said my brother sold his sub and I produced a screenshot of the cashed check. So after reading this thread you needed clarification on:

1. if the OP is my brother (?!?!?!), and
2. if the OP's DJII he attempted to sell on the forums and is keeping is the same watch as a submariner sold by someone else last year (?!!?!??!?!?!??!) ?

How...did...you...come...up....with.... ahhh nevermind.

I see the OP hasn't chimed in his own thread. Time for me to go back to enjoying reading about appreciation of watches.

Mailman, go back to an earlier part in the thread, I did respond, but wanting to hear comments from others. That is the purpose of posting one's experience.

I hope one day I can become a Moderator like you, and spread such wonderful knowledge.

I disagree. It seems the reason you started the thread was to complain about lowball offers on a watch you had for sale. That's obvious.

Fact of the matter is if you wanted to sell it you could have to Bob's for more than you were offered by the lowballers.

Next time I buy or sell a watch I'll do my homework first and realize what to expect...just like I always do.

fact of the matter is this: by extreme lowballing, you 'buyers' accomplish two things:
1) you look like a complete ass
2) you drive good dealers away from the forums and they end up listing elsewhere.

Seems to me everybody needs a little more fiber in their diet

I spent 35 years as an insurance broker for Property and Casualty Insurance for Fortune 500 companys both here in the US and Internationally. Lowball deals are just part of it. Just say no thanks and move on.

In my experience, there are two types of lowballers: the one who wants your goods or services but can't afford them and the hustler/capitalist who will lowball you just to test your floor.

Sometimes, saying no and moving on will cost a potential sale. After all, they both want something you have.

I completely agree. I tried to convey this in my post, but yours sounds better

A message to you lowballers........

I'm still wondering why this thread has gotten so complicated. Everyone's definition of lowball is different. But the OP could easily have responded, "No, I'm not willing to sell at that price because I could get at least ___ at Bobs or wherever." Then the ball is back in the court of the potential buyer. If they weren't really serious, the conversation is over. If they are serious, then they will have to increase their offer.

I think Bill's point is justified. If someone uses open ended words in a post such as, "my asking price is let's say 4400." You are asking to get silly offers.
Or if you say. Wire only..and someone says send me a paypal invoice then it's like they did not read the post. That's the irritating stuff to me.
Fine lines though. Listed price is 6K and you offer 5600. Very reasonable. If someone says a firm price. I do not offer.

I sold a 1016 a while back and received an offer of $2400...that was not from a new member either..

So a message for you lowballers..........When it is your turn to sell a watch on the forum I can only hope you get lots of lowball, annoying offers.

Without reading through every post in this thread,i surmise the poster

is irritated by low ball offers.

My advice to anyone, with my 33 years of sales experience as a general sales and financial director,
if you want to avoid low ball offers on a product you are selling,do not post "offers accepted" or "best offer"
and simply write "firm" after your asking price..

I don't see the problem..

Interesting thread here... It's chalk full of emotions!

I've had my fair share of lowball offers, just like everyone else. My template answer is

"No sorry, I can not accept that price. I can move a little if you're interested. But if you are just going to low ball don't waste either of our time." This is 99% the last time they respond.

I've been buying/selling online in various forums/auction sites, etc for years and I've come to the realization that lowballers are part of the cost of doing business. Yes, they can be frustrating but I find that there are far more worrisome things in life to get worked up about. First world problems and all that....jrs146^...that's the prefect response.
