I like my rollies ( Daytona SS-Yachtmaster 18K-pres 18K ) but I love my Panerai 127 .
All my rolex watches have collected alot of dust lately.
Rolex seemed to me to have been that trophy watch Ive always wanted.
Been their , done that , and got the T-shirt w/ rolex.
Pannies are different kinda cool for me now . Hard to explain.

I have to say my 3 millies 2 ss daytonas and DSSD collect dust. My pannies get all the attention. Rolex just not producing any thing new or innovative IMHO. Rolex will never go the way of the Dodo but they need come out with something new. In the meantime bring on the PAMs.

Right now - my thinking is PAM. The PCL's is tough for me. Wish it wasn't but it is. Love my SD... Seriously thinking about trying to trade the GMTIIc which I think is a great watch for an older Non GMT.

Love both brands though... Also, a few other brands someday...

Pan does have the upper hand in the collection , however i would not part of the crowns either , next to that there are a few other brands that I have also, but I don’t think I would flip a Lex for a Pan or visa versa. My latest was the LN and it gets a lot off wrist time also. Both great brands.

I feel there is room in a collection for both, and many other brands. Just MHO and YMMV.

My Rolies and my PAM are all just a small part of a much larger collection. Love them both for different reasons. I still consider my GMT-IIc my most versatile/wearable watch though.

Panerai have lost me, i just can't be bothered with them anymore after so many problems, bad service and the way they work their Special Edition stuff, later this year i'm getting another watch, it'll either be a Rolex or a JLC Amvox, i can't see me buying another Panerai again

wow really, im sorry to hear about the bad experiences? how does one service a panerai? simply through an AD or Boutique? or do they have service centers like Rolex?

i have only had experiencing servicing a Rolex and i simply would just walk in to the beverly hills location and get what i need done, a full service took about 3 weeks and you get a nice travel pouch. I guess now that RSCBH is gone i need to ship my pieces Texas or New York....

They have service centres, usually Richemont service centres that will carry out repairs on all their watches such as Panerai, IWC, JLC, etc.

Rolex are on a different planet with repairs from my experiences.

Has Panerai won me over? That's not so easy to answer for me.

If you mean the real Italian brand Panerai designed and made in Italy, than yes. But this real brand with lots of history and heritage does not longer exist today.

It stopped existing when the boys from Cartier/Vendome/Richemont bought the company back in 99 or so, closed it and just used the name and look and started making replica's in Switzerland.
The replica Panerai's of today leave me stone cold. No heritage, no soul, just superb marketing which is lost on me.

It would be a totally different story if the Richemont group would have treated this great name like VW/AUDI did with Lamborghini. Or BMW with Rolls Royce.
Imagine a Rolls Royce being made in Germany.

This is exactly what the poor Panerai name had to go through. Moved from their country and roots to being incorporated in the Cartier network. Not for me , thank you

The only thing keeping me from buying a real Italian Panerai is the price these watches go for these days.

Brilliant move by Johann Rupert, bought the Panerai name for close to nothing and its obviously a great success. If it was not for Richemont buying Panerai I would not be wearing one as I am typing this .

Long story, but the short answer is i'll keep the 233, it's too sweet a watch to give up, but i'm honestly at the stage where i just don't even look at the brand anymore when i'm in the AD.

a different planet? is that good or bad?

the only other watch company i have heard of that has as good of service as the rolex service i have experienced is Omega, i have not personally serviced an Omega but i have close friends who have and they say its wonderful in terms of service and time.

I am with you on this Chris. Grateful....

If you look at everything in life that has been consolidated, bought out - name changed etc... You would need to probably stop using your bank, mortgage company, home builder, favorite airline, car, computer, Department store and certainly any software you are using on the computer you are reading this on... I understand your point though...

I am glad we all don't have to like the exact same things especially watches... That is one of the things I like most about this hobby and this forum!
