Setting date on GMT-Master II 16710

I recently purchased my first Rolex. The 1991 coke bezel GMT-Master II seen below, ref. 16710. You may have seen my query re servicing it. I have another question if you don't mind indulging me.

I noticed RogerF's review of the same model included a discussion of the fact that the 16710 does not have a quick set date. I am wondering, however, if there is a shortcut. Do you have to make two full revolutions (i.e., 24 hrs.) with the hour hand to get the date to advance? That's how I set mine initially.

I also have a vintage (1970) Tissot Seastar with a Valjoux 7734 movement and when you advance the time past midnight the date changes (as you'd expect). You can then move the time back to about 10 p.m. and forward past midnight to advance the date again. This saves from having to make complete 24 hour revolutions of the hands to change the date.

Does this work on the 16710? I suppose I could just try it, but I know one of you can set me straight....

Cheers

Pull your crown out to the first position. You hour hand will jump in one hour increments. You'll have to rotate the hour hand this way to change the date.

Nice picture. The GMT Master II is a beautiful watch indeed. Very tempted to buy a used piece. Another potential acquisition for me is the SS Daytona with white dial for easy reading. Have to work hard to earn the dough to make this happen.
