Very nice indeed. Hails back to the days when Rolex/Tudor were more concerned with function than form, a true tool watch.

This ancestor, a 1976 7020 TOG remains in my rotation because its just a damn useful watch. :)

Thanks Richard, I have long been a fan of the rotating bezel D+D myself.

Thanks for your review! Went out and picked up the near mint version below. I'm finding it hard to wear any other watch for the last month as the 76200 is so comfortable!

I meant I was lucky to find the 1960s Datejust with box and papers.

Nice D+D. Love the bezel.

They really are fantastic watches that fly under the radar.

I have the California dial model with the Mercedes hands. The 36mm size wears a tad small on my wrist. I was going to sell mine as I had picked up a Hydronaut and a 79263 steel/gold Tudor Tiger chrono, but instead I gave it to my wife and she loves it. It's big for her wrist, but she alternates it with her Hydronaut. It's the only way I could really justify keeping it and not selling it.

Why are these only available in Hong Kong? It's not fair!!!! They should be for sale in the USA too.

The California is a nice piece, and Rolex's final fling with that historical dial layout. Sadly they are no longer available here new as far as I can tell. It's mostly stick dials in silver, black or blue.

Thanks. I find the bezel does give engineering look. Different from the usual fluted bezel.

Thank you Adam, you gave me a lot of insight regarding these models, I went a different route and grabbed this for a song, a mid 80's 75304 Jumbo in NM condition. It came with the original Oyster bracelet, also NM condition, but I'm trying to source one of these Prince bracelets, I read that some of them were offered with SEL(?) For now I gave it a new Horween Shell Cordovan strap. Still loving these, I'd love to add a black dial 76214 if I can find one! Next trip to Asia.

I have never heard of that dial being referred to as a "doorknob" dial. Is that a name you came up with?
I could find no other reference to a Rolex doorknob dial on Google as well.
I have heard it called a piepan dial presumably because of the ridge around the perimeter.

He means 'doorstop' dial. They're called that due to the shape of the 6 and 9 markers.

Hadn't heard of that one either, but I see what you are referring to on the hour markers.
Will have to check mine and see which one it is.

Have been loving my black faced 76200 since I picked it up a few months ago, so when the opportunity to pick up this silver faced one presented itself, had to jump on it as well! Always been a fan of the linen dialed datejusts so this modern version really appealed to me.

Sorry, I missed this post before. I like that dial, it has a nice retro look

Beautiful stories and pics of one of my prior dream watches.

For the record, I spotted quite a few 36mm Tudor Cyclops day-dates at the duty free airside store at the Taipei Taoyuan international airport. It was tempting..

Wow, what model is this one and what year it is?
I always thought these were 70 or 80 and vintage (which is very difficult to find in US). If you can find it new in HK AD, mind to share the address. Next time I can ask my family get me one. Thanks!

The ref number is 76200 and it was bought new this year. Most ADs here should have them. You just have to shop around a little.

Maybe. There are more than 60 Rolex ADs in Hong Kong. Easy to find another one if they don't.

I am embarrassed to say I did not know Tudor made a day date. This is the type of post where you can learn something new! Thanks for the post.

What are all the dial options for the modern brand new ones you can still buy in HK?

In theory, most of what you see in post #43 except the California and pink romans. In practice, stock seems to be thinning out, so you might have to grab what you can find. I'm on the lookout for a blue sticks. Found a black sticks last week.
