Rolex Day-Date/President in Stainless-steel

I reckon this subject will not attract much interest amongst the many Rolex watch collectors in this forum.

For those who think the most beautiful watch Rolex has ever produced is the Day-Date, kindly let me know, if you know or have come across a ROLEX DAY-DATE/PRESIDENT in STAINLESS-STEEL. If so, please share it.

Rolex Day-Dates are only available in precious metal. A rarer variant being Tri-Dor. There was a prototype made in Stainless Steel according to the Author of 100 Superlative Rolex Watches, John Goldberger. It has no markings such as ref. or serial.

In short Day Dates come in Rg,Yg,WG (Gold) & Platinum.

Yes I fully agree with you, Rolex DD only come in precious metals. It would be much appreciated if you are able to tell me more about those protos - why they were made and is there any picture of this watch, for you to share with forum members.

Are all those watches pictured, yours? They are just wonderful and thank-you.

Like you, I also love the Rolex Day-Date, most.

For some strange reason, it is not that collectible or sought-after compared to Rolex tool or sports watches. Do you by chance know the reason/s?

It's ironic this question was asked. I was just wondering the same thing about the DD's the other day. I saw a very simple looking white one the other day wand I thought to myself, that's really quite nice. Started thinking it may be affordable for me to grab one in SS but I guess that's not gonna happen.

The only ss DD's are from Tudor.
There's an interview on Jake's blog with a big time collector in Europe that has or has seen at least one ss Rolex DD.

I know of one person with a two tone. Much older model but, he's sent it to rolex before and he's in his 70's. Cant believe it wouldn't be genuine.

Yes, Ive heard of SS day date prototypes to. I saw a TT prototype at a dealer in NYC once for $30,000 ish.

FYI this two tone day date is on a jubilee bracelet and I've known this guys son for 27 years and I know he got it before that time frame. I think he said it's been to rolex twice. His back up watch is a Breitling. He also has a Luminox for beating up working on stuff around the boat club. He owns the boat club so he's always doing something there.

The two-tone President is a myth in my mind...

However, they are easily confused with---- "Tridor"

As for Rolex watches, once in a long while, something of a surprise appears. Even the experts will be baffled.

I have never seen a Rolex Day-Date in TT (Two-tone) and this is the first one, ever. However, it does not mean it is a franken or fake. I am not at all surprised the seller got a Rolex documentation. Just ask 100 vintage Rolex watch collectors, I am sure 99.9% will say, it is not a genuine Rolex. But now there is a Rolex documentation to substantiate, this Rolex Day-Date TT comes from Rolex of Geneva and not the castle of Frankenstein.

This very interesting pastime, vintage-watch collecting, is indeed very challenging, since once in a while an example never seen before, comes staring into our eyes.

To all participants, thank you for bringing to my attention, there is actually a Rolex Day-Date in stainless-steel albeit prototypes. Perhaps the TT Rolex Day-Date is also a proto.

Except for the proto types DD from the sixties I'd say all the other SS en TT DD watches are franken/marriage watches.

Basicly the movements are the same and can be swapped out within 15 minutes.

Presumably we don’t know whether that first 60s TT DD above is YG/SS or YG/WG?

I thought it was great that the only few SS DDs were supposedly given out as prizes to students for horological achievement. Rolex should do something similar now - It would both generate good press and encourage the craft.
