Trade thoughts...tyring to pick for the future and slim down collection..

A trade thoughts as I am trying to thin the heard and try to pick for the future.

1. Would you trade a DJ41 (good combo, 2 tone everyone, fluted, jubilee, new dial) and a black dial 116500 +18k for a GMT Meteorite. Effectively paying 50k for the Meteorite which doesn't sound crazy considering the market and rarity of that watch. Love the idea of the Meteorite, but do have another white gold watch in the collection, but do not have a GMT.

I’d love that GMT, but I don’t care for the meteorite dial. To me, that dial is more market hype, but has no aesthetic appeal at all. I’d sit tight.

No I would NOT do this trade (and also keep my 18K in the pocket) At the end of the day it is “just” a watch (who tells the time/date) -not more not less-

My read is if, after a few people say no and you’ve quickly pivoted to an entirely different watch, then I would do nothing.

I like the GMT2s more than I like Daytonas & I like the WG/meteorite even more. I would not do this trade. You adding $18k on top of a SS Daytona & a TT DJ41 is too much money.

Even more no. This is uglier (IMO) & does less things than a GMT2 does.

I saw this, too. A meteorite GMT2 is completely different than the 6007G (which reminds me of a casino table). OP: If you want to offload some pieces, do that & wait for something nice to come your way. I'd also work on what you actually want this new piece to do for you... Dressier? Sportier? More functions? PM? It seems you cannot answer those questions yet.

Sounds like you’ve got the itch to do something,…..anything. You want a new watch. That’s fine. If you want to cull the collection, sell your least favorites. Visit A few Boutiques, of your favorite brands. Try on some things that catch your eye. Do some online research. Watch some YouTube reviews. Take your time. When you know exactly what you want, buy it.

Check watch charts. 2 watch + $50k = terrible deal.

The meteorite dial GMT does absolutely nothing for me so this would be a definite no…it depends on how much you like the GMT.

I have the New GMT Pepsi Meteorite and NOT a chance I would trade for those watches and $18k

I rock my GMT Meteorite often and its RARE compared to even the Daytona which I feel now in 2024,
Rolex is ramping up production of SS Sports Models and Limiting the production of the Precious metals Models.
Then add in the Limited amount of Meteorite Dials they are putting out and how each one is UNIQUE!
while the daytona is hard to get I agree they are ALL THE SAME and Still SS in the end!

Also the Price of Gold is going to Keep pushing higher and higher over the next few years making Precious metal pieces go up even more....

the chart says it all more of a stable Flat price pattern with the 126719 and a continued dive even on the white faced daytona
and FIND ME A 126719BLRO Meteorite BOX AND PAPERS for $44K and I will buy IT!!!!

The 116500LN in the US on Chrono24 is lowest $24k

The 126719BLRO in the US is lowest $54k

IF I was you I would take it!!!!! you win on this deal! $50k all in TAKE IT AND RUN!!!

Glad someone making me feel like I'm not crazy. All about the rare dial and PM and a piece that will be unique for years to come.

Huh?
What data do you have regarding this?

One thing you can be sure of......2 tone and full pm models are pretty much always available. Rolex makes more money on those. While the SS models may become more available, there is no indication that pm models are becoming less available.

GMT meteorite is special due to the dial, not because is made out of gold.
Rolex made it in PM to squeeze more profit out of its uniqueness. Kind of: "you want this special dial that is available for a limited time? well, you gotta pay for the gold, too".
They did the same with the ceramic Pepsi after they have resurrected it. "You want the new Pepsi? Well, you gotta pay the gold".

OP, if this is the one you dream about, get it.
Bear in mind that trades with dealers are (almost) never good for the buyer. They are looking to make money on all watches involved the the trade. The one they are selling and the ones they take in as a trade.

I'd pass on the deal.

Regardless of scarcity, cash is expensive these days, and a lot of PM watches are shaking in price. If you really want that Meteorite dial GMT, I would sooner suggest selling that Datejust for cash (take your time doing it) and then make a cash offer for the GMT with some cash on top.

I would not trade a black dial 116500 for a GMT (even a WG meteorite). I would only consider trading a black dial 116500 for a black dial 126500. YMMV.
