lessons learned
I placed a WTB for a Ulysse Nardin 026-88 a few weeks ago. I received seven “offers”. All of them seemed to be scams. Four of them sent photos of the exact same watch. So, here are some thoughts….
Scammers frequently use improper or awkward English grammar. They have been RF members for a very short period of time or just joined and have no history. They are excessively friendly in their messages. They claim to be professional sellers or have sold to many others with no evidence to back it up. Their asking price is significantly below market. It is easy to detect them. Just insist on using an escrow service, such as Escrow.com, for the transaction. Or ask them to list the watch on Chrono24 and Chrono24 will do some due diligence and they also offer Escrow.com. Once you have made these demands, the scammers will just fade away. Or stick with trusted sellers here on RF. Good hunting! |

Thanks, always good to keep these "tells" front and center.

Or you can do what I do, and drag them on for a week or so. I also like making them practice their photoshop skills. Although I’d already found the original listing photos on the watch at watchuseek, I asked him for a photo of the watch held up to the computer screen with our chat in the background. Here’s what was sent:

You never know. Ask the seller to send you photos of the watch set to a certain time you select and go from there. I myself would not send money to an individual I did not know to buy a watch. I only deal with established companies with great feedback. So, individuals who want to sell their watches have to be aggressive in their pricing, if they ever want to sell something.
