My First Rolex - Vintage Oysterdate Precision
Hi everyone,
Here are some photos of my first Rolex, an Oysterdate Precision. From the serial number on the case, 4733XX, I believe it dates from 1946. I think the reference number is 6694 but I can't quite make out the second number as it is very faint due to being scratched by a strap. I hope this sounds right. It's quite accurate. Based on a very unscientific method of checking it against my Tissot T-Touch, it off by about five or six seconds a day. That's much better than my Seiko. Sorry for the poor photos. Just picked-up a new digital camera and still trying to figure it out. I tried to take photos of the serial and reference numbers, but they cam ouy very fuzzy. Regards, LBW |

In 1954, the serial numbers started over, beginning at 100,000...so yours is from 1956 or so (would be more consistent with the styling).
Nice one, and nice strap!

Beautiful watch..
But Rolex started re-numbering in 1955. I think that you will find your beauty is a 1959 model.. Easy to tell.. In the 50's they stamped the inside case-back with the date.. Probably says something like II59 for the second quarter of 1959,,, .............

Very nice watch.
If you have it, try the macro setting on your camera. That should let you get the serial number. |
