All these waiting lists have made me leave the watch world

Regret to say this, but the waiting lists on attractive models and talk about investment in watches makes me want to puke and have totally put me off from the hobby. i

One guy off the wanting lists which should be good for you guys. To be serious don't you think this in the long term will happen to more people and hurt brand perception?

Just buy used or try other brands. Plenty of watches still out there, not worth getting this fussed in my opinion.

Rolex isn't the only watch maker, there are plenty others such as Patek, Omega,...Life moves on even without Rolex LOL

Heresy. Rolex is the only brand. Waiting is good for the soul. You'll appreciate it more. If you can remember what you ordered. LOL.

All these waiting lists have made me leave the watch world

These are high priced luxury goods. Many of the brands sell exclusivity as part of the image and value. It shouldn’t be surprising that they don’t want a glut of stale watches sitting in dealer cases and offered at huge discounts to get them sold.

If you want big discounts and instant availability, there are tons of watch brands that will meet your needs; it just won’t be Rolex, Patek, AP, etc.

P.S. Don’t let your wife get into Hermès bags.

Free market don't get on a list and don't buy if you don't like the lists.

At my peak I had 3 modern Rolexes and a few other watches. I gradually sold off the ones that I wasn't wearing, and then when the market got silly last year, I sold my BLNR. I am just not willing to pay the premium for what these things are going for now, and so I bought a nice new Omega which does the same thing that the Rolex does - it tells me the time. It's a nice watch, no PCLs and although I can definitely tell the difference in quality, I'm just not feeling the need right now.

And yes, my investments have not done well. If I were flush, I'd likely feel different about it and would be buying my PM Daytona.

I'm also someone who refuses to wait in line for anything, be it food, a movie, a ride at the amusement park or a watch.

Lucky for me I don’t like any of the modern Rolexs. Get yourself a nice 5 digit reference.

There are many other fine watch brands where the customer has the upper hand. No need to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Personally, I don't mind waiting for a piece I like. So far, it's been the pieces that have taken a search and some patience in waiting that are the pieces I enjoy the most and stay in my collection the longest as waiting, as opposed to buying on impulse gives me plenty of time to reflect on why I want a particular watch.

From what I’ve learned in the watch game, MSRP is pointless.
It’s just what the market is ready to pay.

You said it yourself, “the attractive model”.
Of course something popular is sold out, that’s how you know it’s popular.

If you can make the move to PM, AP or PP then you are golden and now is the time, if not then it is a hard and frustrating road that Rolex will not be able to clear for some months yet.

No pun intended?

Your point is a good one. The delta between the secondary market prices for steel (at significant premiums) and PM (at significant discounts) now often makes the PM the better value buy.

I think there are markets that have more availability problems than others. I haven't had a problem getting the watches that I want. Don't let the long waiting lists let you down, there are many countries, many AD's.

I've said it many times before and I'll say it again, I got into Rolex at just the right time.

I've got some nice ones, but nothing particularly spectacular, across a nice range of styles, functions, and materials.

I like my Tudor watches, which are mostly new-school with at tip of the hat to the old-school, and also one wholly old-school vintage.

At this point I'm above the fray.

I did recently see in a local shop a five-digit Pepsi going for $10,500, which didn't surprise me, given all that I've read here, but at the same time was a huge indicator that I have enough Rolex watches for now.

I have plenty of other watches that give me a lot of satisfaction, as well.

It's still a great hobby and there is always interesting stuff going on, so I'm not going anywhere, but I will be marking time in the luxury segment long enough to see what finally emerges in terms of supply, demand, and innovation.

I agree with you, but without your passionate reaction.

If I cannot get a model for RRP or less, I move on to something else. I my case it was an IWC that has filled all my requirements to the point I'm thinking of selling most of my other watches including my GMTIIc, and I have started collecting fountain pens.
