Finally Saw it irl the controversial Code 11.59

Dropped by my local boutique in Singapore today and they have the Code 11.59 for preview, actual pieces that are now making their rounds around Asia AP boutiques. As everyone knows, this new collection from AP was the "talk of SIHH", and the opinions of the WIS community have been overwhelming negative. Even the boutique staff that showed me the watches was nervous when asking my opinion.

Here are some pics first...

I'll share my opinion in a later post tomorrow. Now it's almost 2AM in the morning and I have to catch some sleep.

I like it. Give it time. 1972 had some very negative things to say about the Royal Oak. Who in their right mind wanted to spend so much for a mechanical stainless steel watch?

Thanks for sharing - the movement looks very interesting, would be nice to see some more detailed shots of it.

I do quite like those photos of them, the white dial does pop out in a very crisp way with the applied markers, logo and numerals.

I’m also sure the in hand and on wrist feel is robust and high quality.

Curious how they will perform in market, in any case I’m sure better than the JA line up which is the point. They weren’t designed to be a replacement for the RO/ROC/ROO ranges.

I’ll be flying into Singapore this Sunday and will check out the collection. Ben, did you see these at Liat Tower or MBS? I’m saying on Orchard Road so don’t plan to visit MBS at this time, unless the collection is better at that Boutique.

P.S. I’ll try to take some additional photos, including wrist shots on my 6.75” wrist, but honestly I’ve never had much luck taking good photos with my iPhone 7 in either of those boutiques. The lighting is difficult, but it’s probably my own in failure as a photographer.

Are you trying to say that the code could be considered a game changer like the royal oak was back then?

God I hope not..... it's just a round watch with an awful dial.

I think you’re missing the point. 1972 ‘negative’ was about paying premium for a (really nice) SS watch.

Current debate is paying tons of $$ for a butt ugly watch. Even with Ben’s photography skills, Watch is still butt ugly.

The 1972 RO argument is totally wrong, because main problem in 1972 was the price of the steel watch not the design itself...

There is no way that the watch that /if you don't follow AP PR team instructions and look at it, photograph it under certain angle/ looks like 50 other stock watches can become game changer...

The dials and hands really are shockingly bad. Maybe irl the dial finishing is good but the design is still horrid. The rest case/movement/sapphire dome are ok though :)
If only I could wear it without looking at the dial.....

don't forget that the paul newman exotic dials were so universally hated they never sold. Maybe one of these days we'll all be scream about the "MK I Code 11:59" dials limited to 2000 pieces.

If price goes low enough, i wouldn't mind the blue tourbillon :)

That movement does not look very pleasing to my eyes. Is it just me? Other pics of the three hander movement I saw don't look that great either.

I s'pose I need to wait until I see IRL.

Thanks for sharing your photos. Looking forward to your follow up post!

I am not a fan of the time/date only reference but will say the white dial model actually looks better in your real-world photo compared to some of the heavily circulated shots from SIHH.

I love Ap but this was a massive failure. Problem is Francois is blind to it which makes it worse

Ben, as usual, fantastic photos . But even your skills can’t make the code1159 look good IMO. Just confirms my initial impressions that AP failed miserably w regard to the dials.

Meh not a fan. I just picture them in a display case with a 40% off sign at Macy’s.

The basic issue is that AP’s target market seems to be 19-year olds who buy $40k watches and communicate only in emojis. I’m not in that demographic, so I guess I guess I just don’t “get it” when it comes to the bizarrely named CODE 11:59

By no means this new collection is at the level of a Royal Oak in 1972.

The Code 11.59 watches are definitely nice and are quality pieces. For me, they just don't have enough of that "Wow" factor to justify the price. For that kinda money, there are a lot of other watches I'd rather buy. Now, if there was no such thing as Daniel Wellington, MVMT, Michael Kors, etc and nothing else looked like this, I think the reviews would be raving over this new line. When the RO first came out, there was nothing else that looked like it.

Also very curious to see more detailed photos. It looks a bit like the raised parts are kind of floating there. I’m sure the finishing will be super, but would like to see more of the overall layout aesthetics.
