Bergeon Platax Tool

Hello folks - Since the Bergeon Platax Tool is obsolete, what are people using to remove balance staff? I have been using an old K&D staff removal tool with a staking set. The Platax seems to be a safer solution, but not really available. I know some cut them out with a lathe, but I'm not certain I can get a collet that small on my Sherline lathe. So, what is everyone using? Cheers. -Norm

We've fallen in love with the Bergeon Mofres tool for cutting then removing the old staff. 100% love it over the platax. From there the regular ole Bergeon staking set for the new staff.

I think nearly every shop will still have a platax whether its used or not. There's one for $300 on ebay right now. It's a good buy for $300

Thanks, Mike. Yeah, I saw that one but it's a little crusty and missing some parts. Who knows if the rotating base plate has been chipped. That Mofres looks like a really neat tool, though equally difficult to find. I'll keep looking, maybe either will turn up in time. Cheers. -Norm
