16550 "reverse cream" polar
Here is a R series 16550 (1987?) with an interesting "reverse cream" dial. The dial stayed white, the markers turned cream.
If you want a collector's perfect watch, go away. Now. It is a used watch. Has led a life that every Rolex should. Climbed mountains, skied, bicycled, repaired cars. The bezel is scratched, without any signs of the original brushing. For that it is an original bezel with the very specific numbers (the 1s look fantastic!). The case has tons of hairline scratches. No dents however. The bracelet is date correct, but not original to the watch. It has a diver's extension. The dial has a free extra tiny dust speck by the II of Explorer II. No papers, no box. Keeps very good time, but I would service it if I were to buy it. All that for 5.5K USD. You know you want a beater, but not any beater. A distinctive beater that could be brought up to excellent again (if you want to never wear it like it was intended, doing anything and everything). |
