Man they really hit it out of the park with the 5740. Maybe just blind luck but for once the subdials fit perfectly on the dial and are positioned ideally.

Combined with the gorgeous blue dial and warmth of the WG this is Pateks best release in the sports line to date. Imho of course.

The more I think about it, the 5740G was definitely my favourite from the Basel 2018 releases. That shade of blue is perfection, and the dial has so much depth to it that cannot be captured by pictures. The heft is also just right. I still dream about it after trying it on at the Geneva Salon. But that price is a little rich for me at this stage!

Have to agree the 5740 was stunning as a complete package.
Definitely a grail piece which sadly I doubt I’ll ever justify...

Meant to mention earlier the new clasp on the 5740.
IMO Much better than the regular clasp (although maybe it could be prone to opening where as the 5712 one wouldn’t because of the fold over..) but I really liked it - it closed together like the aquanaut one.

I saw the 5740 today, looks and feels fantastic and the dial is nicely balanced, not too crowded, but the price is way over the top and yet demand looks high so this will not be coming down anytime soon. Saw the Aqua Chrono and the orange is quite subtle and nicely done and it wears pretty big at 42 plus the three pushers, felt a bit lopsided with no ears/pushers on the other side.

Def the best blue dial of Patek, and the blue Aquanaut is also very nice in bright lights, like a deep petrol similar to the 15400 but then goes almost balck in lower light, also saw the 5712 with them and that dial really suffers in comparison, looks too grey for me, was always my issue but now even more so with the new vibrant blue dials.

I was told the demand was very high for the 5740G and Patek would control the supply and I think we will see big premiums at least for the first few years. I think same will be with the 5968A.

Yup in rich cities demand will be very high, I was told 2/3 year wait probably.

Maybe some Patek noob like me can grace its presence in the next years. But I kind of appreciate the chameleon properties of the 5712a/5711a dials.....it goes from very grey to very blue and everything in between it seems like in different lighting. I would prefer that versus something that is just different shades of blue all the time.

But man.....a PC with the thinness of these watches....that sounds heavenly indeed. Very worth of consolidation/saving my pennies for down the line.

When these were released most of us really liked both of them, and yet waiting lists for the 5740 are so much longer than for these, sign of the sports/dress times.

I don't think the size of waitlist has much bearing on availability of either piece. If you are a good client it is much easier to get a 5740, if not then both are made of unobtanium.

My AD had a long waitlist for both, but either way they're both very beautiful watches. I find the blue colour of the 5740 a tad too bright for me though.

It definitely doesnt add to the look but i also dont think its a major detractor either, i'm indifferent. I do think it could have gone without a date at all though.

It's the same, I'm pretty sure there are only two blue dials on the Nauts.
