Countdown to Maui.

Four days to go until our annual Maui trip! My wife is damn near unbearable with anticipation and a serious need for relaxation.

Blansky… I will have a cocktail at Tommy Bahama’s for you.

Merle…. Wish ya’ll were there too.

If anyone is around, shout out for a cocktail meet up.

Have a blast Jason. Which side are you staying on, Kaanapali or Wailea?

Jason, we go to Maui a lot and have "traditions" like you do I'm sure. And it's always jarring to find that something changed from the last time.

One of our traditions was after we landed, my wife got the car, and I got the bags and the first stop on the way to Kaanapali, always at around 11AM-1PM, after the 5 hour flight we'd stop at Beach Bums at Maalaea Harbor. We did that twice a year for over 20 years. The first Corona, being the best tasting Corona of the trip, with a burger or fish and chips.

Last trip, damn, they're gone. Space for rent. CHANGE IS HARD.

We stay at the Mana Kai at the north end of Keawakapu Beach. It’s where Five Palms and Sarentos used to be. Two more 20+ traditions going away for us too.
Mana Kai has Kiehei prices but Wailea beaches.

The last two times, some of our favorite places to eat were seriously struggling with staffing and supply issues (Monkey Pod & Tommy Bahama) but Mama’s was still top notch. It is so dang expensive to begin with, we probably didn’t even notice they had to jack their prices up.

Nice. We walked right by there last spring doing the beach walk from the Grand Wailea to Kehei. (We were at the Marriott)

Great beach there.

A little tease....

I’m here in Maui now. Rented an oceanfront condo at Puamana—just a few min from downtown Lahaina.

Dinner at Mama's FH is a must. Reservations should be made months in advance in my experience. Cheers!

I was in Hawaii a couple of months ago and the MonkeyPod in Whalers Village, Kaanapali, was busy and seemed to be doing fine.

As was Leilani's and Hula Grille, with lines to get in a mealtime.

Enjoy your trip, I will be there in July
Last year my wife made reservations 6 months in advance for Mama's Fish House. Years ago I naively drove into Mama's lot coming back from Hana and expected to get a table, Ha !

Jason, I'm jealous! I was hoping you would be there when we are there in the fall. I can't believe it's been six years since we had our little GTG in the Napua Tower. Time flies!

We haven't been to Mama's in the last three or four years. We've been eating most of our meals in Wailea. Morimoto's and Ka'ana kitchen in the Andaz, Matteos, Ferraras, occasionally Duo and Spago and Tommy B's. Tim is still there at the bar. Unfortunately, Shaka closed in Kihei and I can't find another good cheesesteak on the island.

Have fun and give my best to your beautiful bride and two young ladies.

And we did!

It’s the only place I am happy to pay $350+ for lunch.

Jason—Papa Aina was excellent. We had brunch. They do dinner service on Friday/Saturday. I ordered the breakfast ramen and it was amazing. Definitely check it out.

If you want a true local spot where you can still get $5 stack of pancakes try Tasty Crust in Wailuku
