My 5 digit gold sub finally arrived

After being delayed in Canada Customs for 2 weeks it's finally on my wrist !!! The obligatory shot with me doing my best impersonation of George Constanza and one of his now imfamous hand modelling photos is attached.

Observations versus my previous maxi-case gold sub.......

Other than the obvious visual improvement in the way the slimmer case size and overall piece looks on my wrist, the metal bezel is just fine, and I do not see any appreciable value in having the ceramic one. I've had a couple of the ceramic ones now, and while they are nice and all that, it's not something I'd pay up for.

While I thought I'd miss the glidelock, I don't. Once you set the clasp you just forget it and carry on. If you wear your watch tight then I can see daily micro-adjustments being necessary, but I let mine hang lose, so it's not an issue for me. As slick and cool as it is, I'm actually fine without it. it is a great piece of kit however.

To the untrained eye, you'd never know the difference between the 16618LB and 116618LB.

Gonna wear it this week, and once I have my insurance appraisal and revised coverage in place, it's being sent off to the mothership (RSC TORONTO) for a full service, new blue bezel, and gold bezel ring. There is a nice ding at the 1 minute marker in both parts, and the gold bezel ring if quite worn down in spots, so I am having them replaced.

Interesting to note that this watch was born in St Tropez, France, in 1999 at Julian Jewellers, a 197 year old family run business.........so I looked it up online........what a cool setting for an AD. It's right on the water in the main port.

Strong choice. I'd choose a five digit version over the current one, without question.

Ugh, I'm jealous. Congrats on that one! In my book, the all-gold 5-digit sub is the way to go. Looks great on you!

Very nice.

To me, the ceramic bezels just look a ton better. I especially like the bit of depth offered by the carved numbers. But, the great thing about Rolex is that older models are plentiful, so everyone gets to have what they prefer.

Nice work. Beauty.

So, I've never replaced a pm bezel at rsc before -- do you get to keep the old one?? I'd ask.

Very nice to have found the right one for you, congrats! If you don't mind, I'd love to hear the quote for the bezel replacement, when you have it.
