I could ride it interstate to you Steve, like in that classic, cool road movie Dumb and Dumber. You can get 70 miles to the gallon on that hog, but where’s Melbourne?

Thank you everyone for your compassionate remarks.

Its been over 1 year now since my scooter was stolen from McDonalds car park while I was having a toasted ham/cheese/tomato sandwich.

McDonalds had video footage of the theft (but they would not show me) and apparently gave it to the police.
I put in a freedom of information request and paid a fee to the police, but they never responded...

I would have thought as part of a proper investigation the first thing the police should do is show me the footage of the theft in the slight chance that I might be able to identify in some way the thief? They didn't do that. I don't know for sure the thief drove off, but he may have done so from what McDonalds told me.

Anyway, I'm riding my electric bicycle most days and it gets me to work just as fast, and I don't have to pay for registration, and petrol.

I still have a Ducati 1100cc Monster, so its not all bad, which I only ride when it is good weather, but I do miss the practical convenience and coolness of the scooter.

When I saw that this old thread had been resurrected, I was hoping to read good news that your scooter had been recovered and returned to you. I am so sorry that's not the case.

But, have you tried talking to anyone at the motor vehicle department where the scooter was registered? Sooner or later the registration will expire and in order to still use it the person who has it will have to register it. Maybe the department has a way of flagging the ID on the scooter to catch it if someone tries to claim they bought it.

What a shame they weren't yet able to recover the Vespa or at least humor you in the process of whatever is happening behind the scenes.

Glad you've got your health and other riding options, but this isn't right. What goes around, comes around. People who do bad things will surely and naturally get it back in some way, shape, or form.

This doesn't make the situation any better at the moment, but happy to see you're grateful for what you do have. Hoping there's a breakthrough with this case and that the police will somehow both catch who did it and find the scooter.

Shame. Hoping to see a positive update returned with fresh wax and a full tank. Sorry to hear it’s not happening on it being recovered yet.

So sorry to hear Steve. I’m sure you asked but I’m surprised McDonald’s wouldn’t let you view the security video. I’d reach out to corporate and make a stink since it happened on their premises. Also, some surrounding business owners may be kind enough to share security with you. Sounds like the police here were not prioritizing unfortunately. I wonder if somehow the thief rolled it in neutral out the parking lot and somehow got it into a waiting truck.

Hope you find another that you eventually like as much.

I’m arranging a Bunga Bunga party next week at my Villa on Lake Como. I’ll ask Steve to send invites to all Pledges.

We should take this offline or you’ll need to arrange who keeps the dog.

OK. Well start taking your B shots and developing a taste for cigarettes and Cinzano. It’s like Gatorade in Italy, and what the ladies live on.
