Unusual dial Datejust 16013

I was looking a nice Rolex datejust 16013 to buy and I found the following:

I think the dial is very unusual (but attractive) because the normal is to have 8 round diamonds and 2 large diamonds instead of 2 raised stick markers.
Do you think is a genuine Rolex Datejust?

It was normal on later Datejust dials to have ten "eight-cut" diamonds but no baguettes. It is Day-Dates that commonly have two of those.

This could be an early dial; interesting, but I've also seen early ones to which third parties fitted stones retrospectively. That coronet is not aligned with the 12 marker.

Beware the usual problem of a tired bracelet on a 16013. Also check condition of the crown, although that can be replaced at a fraction of the cost of a bracelet.

Dial existed, it was not popular. 6 diamond with baguette gold markers 6,9 Available on late 1600 series and 1st few years of 16000 series

Surely eight diamonds with two baton markers? I did think those settings looked like the correct, early style I've seen on Day-Dates. This is right up your street, Crown :-)

Having different markers at six and nine is a persistent theme on the Datejust line and one that has resurfaced with strength in the current range. In my view it is with mixed aesthetic success.

I vote diamonds added aftermarket. The settings resemble Rolex USA setting, but they aren't evenly spaced from the hash markers, and the 11 o'clock is tilted. Not to mention what looks like a glaring stain on the dial. And good catch on the off-entered coronet.

Edit: FYI Becker time's liberties taken with descriptions have been discussed here many times also.

Hello all. Its been a while since I posted.

I appreciate everyones comments about the dial. It is a factory original Rolex diamond dial. It has been checked by two different Rolex watchmakers (mine and the company I bought it from's watchmaker). This included having the dial removed from the movement to inspect the underside of the dial. The "stain" looking part of the dial is the shadow of the camera lens.

I have been told that it was not a popular dial and my research shows that there are not many available on the preowned market. I personally think its cool because its different from the "norm".

Quick update...the watch has been sold and paid for earlier today. We ran the listing on ebay...the auction ended on May 31st and it finally paid for. ebay item #201590962431. Because it has been paid, I will be marking it out of stock as I do not have another available.
