Newbie Rolex Box Identify

I think I have included a photo of a Rolex box from an estate sale, question , what watch came in this box or at least what year.. Inside was a retirement watch from 1947 no Rolex on the face( so want to confirm it is from that year) but leads to second question: do all 40s Rolex say Rolex on the face? Thanks from a new member

It's fake because that logo has never been used since Rolex SA trademarked the logo we know since 1925.

It is not fake. It's a vintage "treasure chest" box from the 30's/40's.

More Info

I searched the net and found there were Rolex watches sold in Canada from Eatons 30s -50s , a local huge department store, that did not display Rolex on the face, same as some sold through Zell's in the U.S. The back of this watch has a gift retirement inscription from the 40s and it did come from an estate in Toronto where Eatons was. However it still does not have the names associated with these Canadian market Rolex so I will need to try getting in the back to see what is there. I will try to post some pics tomorrow. Thanks to all who replied to my post.

Rolex did some funky stuff in their early days... things didn't really stabilize until the 70s IMHO

Here are the pictures

The face has Skyline then centregraph and shockproof lower down. It is small so maybe a junior version and military style with the red second hand. They seem to have attached a stainless steel disc onto the back for the engraving for the retirement gift covering any identifying marks. I am taking it at some point for a tune up so I will report any reveals when its opened up though that won't be for awhile.

It will be interesting to see what's under that engraved disc, and what name is on the inside of the case back. I'm thinking quite likely Oyster Watch Company. I never came across the Skyline name before; maybe it was dialled for a retailer of that name.

adam78 has a couple of Oyster watches (a Rolex subsidiary company in the 1930s-40s) that share certain dial and hand characteristics with yours.

That ugly fake looking logo is obviously called a Broomstick logo and was used in the 30's.
