My wife still does not know what the things on the side of hers are for......
That said I vote Zenith, and a rare vote on here I like the sporting history of the old Heuers and Certina's.

The king? Not sure. But these are all the best for me --> Omega speedmaster, Breitling navitimer, Heuer monaco, Zenith el primero, Rolex Daytona. Lol

only way speedy can be considered is 321 cal (aka Lemania 2310)
the chrono kick on 861 and 1861, as well as unwanted drag on the powertrain, disqualifies it from being the best. The 861 and 1861 are best compared to Valjoux 72 and 7750, ETA 2824, Venus 178, Longines 13ZN, etc... Daytona 4030 vs 4130 vs Omega 321 should be the question based on technical content and history. and my answer is 4130. However I hold a special place in my heart for the 13ZN-12. |

Daytona: The king of chronographs?

This right here. The jump of timing hand was such a disappointment. I often question how precisely the Apollo 13 booster firings for trajectory adjustments could have have been with the jump you get on the chrono function. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Daytona: The king of chronographs?
I own a Platona and steel Daytona ceramic but Patek and Lange are still tops in my books.

What's great about these threads is that if a newbie was looking for a chronograph, he could very easily pick any of the brands mentioned and end up with a outstanding chronograph.
Kinda like sitting on a room of super models and looking for a date.

I am partial to these two. I hope to get a Daytona at some point in the future.

Manual wind Speedy with hesalite crystal is the quintessential chronograph.

Not questioning the movement of the Patek 5980 but that's one ugly watch. The shape reminds me of calculator watches of the 80s. I'll pass.

Another issue with the speedy is lack of robust water resistance.
I don't agree with people that think a watch with an inferior movement and inferior water resistance rating could possibly be the best of all time. Don't get me wrong, I like the speedy and think it has the best legibility and strap appearance ability of almost every chrono ever created and mass produced, I respect it very much, but without the moonwalk promotional aspect, it's a sheep, not the GOAT. |

My personal favourite and daily wearer is the almost vintage Tudor chronograph with rotating 12-hour GMT bezel and date with cyclops (79270).
Here is a representative photo from another TRF thread. |

There is not a doubt they are produced in larger quantities than other watches such as Patek but they are still for the most part assembled/built by hand (like Patek). Cases for all watches are still made the same way. So the term mass produced when referring to Omega or Rolex is a little misleading.

The king is Daytona. That is just the way it is.
There are many princes in the kingdom - Speedmaster, Datograph, Navitimer, El Primero, etc. |
