Is the New Air-King in the Professional Line?

Just wandering is the New Air-King considered as oyster perpetual with a special dial, or it's in the professional line like explorer, submariner, etc.

According to the Guided Search option on Rolex's website, when you select professional watches the AirKing is not included. Neither is the Explorer 1

They are both in the professional section of the paper catalog so I say they are professional watches.

Any watch that doesn't have crown guards does not fall into the "Professional" range.

Interesting. I thought it was to do with whether or not it had an Oysterlock clasp. The Explorer does but the Air King doesn't.

Another differentiator is a functional bezel (elapsed time, 24h, tachymeter, etc.)

Nothing says "professional" like crown guards...

I get your point - but the true reason for crown guards is more work related imho. In other words, occupations that lead to banging the crown on something hard.

The professionals I think about include doctors lawyers managers whilst Rolex was thinking pilots divers spelunkers...

The "professional" watch would be one that has a function or design that is useful and not readily found on a normal watch..

The Milgauss would follow that with it's non-magnetic movement, even though it doesn't have a marked bezel.

The Air-King, it can be argued, now also follows that theme with it's bold and readily visible seconds markers used by pilots to time turns and way-points. It also now has the non-magnetic movement and will not be affected by the earths magnetic flux lines at high altitude.

Is the New Air-King in the Professional Line?

Would I be correct that all of Rolex's professional line-up was 40mm or more? Now the YM 37 is on the list...
Otherwise wouldn't a TOG have fit the bill with its bezel back when it was in production?

I think the intent behind the watch is professional pilots. How it's used in practice is a different story.

I guess what matters is what Rolex says are professional. The 2016 brochure shows the following as professional. Some with crown guards, some without. Some with added complications, some without.

What about those wordings at the back case of some watches ie SD, milgauss and DSSD? Do those matter?

To start... all Cellini models are not professional watches. Also the base models OP.
