My first Rolex...

...has been with me 15 years now. Bought it new. Haven't worn it in a bit, so I decided to give it some long overdue "wrist time". It's my preferred watch for travel, naturally enough. However, it's a great "all arounder".

I've been fortunate to own a number of fine watches, but none better or more useful than this one...this GMT Master II, now nearing "vintage" status, remains a favorite.

If I had to pick just one watch, this would be a top candidate.

Haven't posted in awhile, hope everyone is doing well...

Have a great weekend...

Lew

Hey Lew, where have you been? Hope all is well! I love the Black/Red 16710, classic!

I still have my first Rolex as well, a 14060 that I bought back in 2000. It is also my go-to travel watch, but for no reason other than that is has been around the world with me several times over the past 17 years and I love to have it as a travel companion.

Hi, DCheeta...

I've been around, just haven't been on the forum much. It hurts my budget!

When I bought this watch, the main contender was the 14060. Close call. I picked the GMT because of its dual time zone capability and because I had a dive watch, an Omega Seamaster Professional.

Of course, the Submariner always appealed to me and my second Rolex was the 16610. I still like the 14060, though. Overtime, the differences between the Sub and Sub Date were enough for me to rationalize buying a second Sub, one of the last 14060Ms.

For me, the Submariner and GMT are must haves.

Enjoy yours! It's great that you've logged so many memories with it on your travels. I think that's one thing we miss when we either flip watches or accumulate several (or more): the melding of our time with a single timepiece.

Very nice GMT, I have the same model (with the 3186 movement).

I like the look and the wrist feel on this model. At the same time, it is extremely reliable, versatile and accurate.

The GMT has to be my favorite watch when travelling

Lew, you still have that Seamaster too, don't you? That was another favorite of mine, but I don't have mine anymore.

The Sub and the GMT have always my favorite two Rolex models, and when I got the Sub my other contender was a 16710 (black bezel). I went with the 14060 because at that time I didn't care for the cyclops.

I'm not much of a flipper, but I agree that as my collection grows I have less of a connection to each piece. The 14060 will always be special for that reason, which I'm sure is how you feel about your GMT after all these years.

Speaking of which, your GMT looks prestine! Awesome watch!

Yes, I've still got that Seamaster. Had it serviced recently and it looks pretty near new. I had the GMT serviced a few years ago and it's held up well! Thanks!

Of course, when you have several watches and rotate them, one benefit is the reduced daily wear and tear on each. A good servicing doesn't hurt, either...
