Stuff to do in Phoenix?

Good Day All,

My wife and I are going to Phoenix next month to see the Flames game (NHL Hockey).

is there anything fun to do there?

We are trying to setup a golf lesson, but that is all we have planned so far. I want to check out a few watch stores also.

Thanks,

Eric

I'm headed there (Scottsdale) this weekend so I'm also looking for stuff to do.

I was out there four years ago and there were a plethora of good watch stores back then. Who knows that survived.

Well, next week is the greatest collector car show in the world if that's your thing http://www.barrett-jackson.com/. Spring training starts mid-February.

Right now the weather is perfect, high 70's, so you could hike any of our wonder peaks surrounding the valley like Camelback Mountain or Pinnicle Peak.

As for watches:

Ben Bridge and Torneau at Fashion Square Mall
Hamra Jewlers in North Scottsdale
Ganem Jewelers in North Scottsdale
Estate Watch and Jewelry in Old Town Scottsdale
Vegas Pawn in South Scottsdale
Hyde Park Jewelers in the Biltmore area
Molina Jewlers in the Biltmore area

Ask anything you want; I don;t know where you are staying but check out the Scottsdale Quarter for sure, the new hot spot in the Valley of the Sun.

Bike/walk the canal. Hike Squaw Peak or Camelback. Walk around Tempe's downtown-fun bars, etc. (which is more interesting than Phoenix's non-existent one).

AZguy is right on about the Camel Back mountain hike.

I recall also doing one called South Mountain a few years ago.

If you like Thai, I recommend:

I went to that AP AD back in 2008 and they make you feel like royalty there. I was merely browsing at the time, but I almost walked out with a ROOC

A couple hours drive south near Tucson area is the Desert Museum. Wish we had time to check it out when the wife and I were down there in November. Its supposed to be really cool - may be an "all day" affair, however. Worth checking into.

Sedona red rock country is about 2 hours north of Phoenix as well. Beautiful, lots of hiking/biking/walking/rent a jeep offroading!

The Jared in Phoenix sells Omega...we bought our first Omega's (and real watches) while on vacation there!

Have fun!

I don't think the wife will let me party too hard. But I am sure we will check out a bar after the hockey game, hopefully to celebrate

We didn't have to check it out, but the friend we were visiting said it was very cool - indoor things and outdoor things to see, wildlife both live and mounted.

Some guy sitting in front of us on the airplane said it was definitely worth checking out - he said it was very well done and worth the time.

We missed out, but thought I'd pass along the option - maybe its not "all that", but worth a look into I guess.

A Desert Museum might be neat, I have never been out to a real Desert before.

The Heard Museum in Scottsdale is the finest Native American art and culture museum in the country, in case that may be of interest. Contemporary and historic work in all different media, from paintings to jewelry to rugs, pottery, etc.

Have fun, both of you! I'm a bit jealous you's are headed out there. I love the west....more Montana, but loved Arizona as well...Just the climate and change in scenery gets me excited.

Your right about the Heard Museum except it is in central Phoenix.

Not sure how long your in town but if staying in Mesa and going to NHL game you will have quite a hall...at least 15 miles. There are lots of restaurants and bars at Westgate where the arena is. Also a couple of hotels so if you want to party after the game might want to think about spending game night there.

As for hiking, Camelback Mountain and South Mountain as previously mentioned. Also Squaw Peak (now called Piestewa Peak if your map is new and politically corrected) is a good one. Just be careful, bring water, and wear the proper shoes as they seem to have to rescue someone about once a week.

Argh, you are correct. The main museum is indeed in Phoenix proper.
