AFAIK, in 1942 the cali dial was used for a specific batch of 3646 ordered by the Marina Militare on short notice and not having the standard Panerai dials on hand, Rolex offered to use their promo dials for that one batch... !

Yours?

Thx Mik and sorry, I didn't notice your reply 'till now... "Trying to get closer to the 294" - how so? The reason I even mentioned the 294 is because I see no real difference (ok, caseback) to the 232... Wait a sec, the 294 has an acrylic crystal and the 232 sapphire...

On another topic someone (on another forum) suggested that with the exception of a few special models (like the 021), all "gold" hands are brass. I'm not really a gold expert so I wouldn't be able to see the difference, I don't think, but brass seems like a reasonable option, not to mention it's the material they used in the 50s (replacing the blued hands). If anyone here would know, it's you, sir

The numbers are so much bigger and nicer on the 232 and the dial is THE perfect shade of brown.

Totally agree with Mik!

Yes, 294 is domed plexi. I don't think the hands are true gold either.
