I was hopign they would have done a 005 replacement with the 8-day, like the 510 but with a painted dial and logo.
In-House doesn't necessarily mean better..........it just means the manufacturer will have a reason to charge more for the watch

Yes, but at least they're not COMPLETELY raping me for the cost.

6497 movement in quantity? What, $50 each probably?
PAM005? $5500

8-day inhouse-who knows, but many $$$ to develop
PAM510: $8000

Seems like the better value. To me, it would be like buying a Porsche 911 with a Honda engine for $10k less.

But.......if the 6497 works better? And is cheaper and easier to service? With a very basic 8-day movement (NOT a "Ferrari" engine) without even a PR indicator, I don't think the calculation is that easy. And don't even get me started on the "8 DAYS" text.

Anyway, there is no right answer and there's enough around to make us both happy.

I guess my point is, it is definitely cheaper, but by comparison they're not charging that much less.

Let's face it, a 005 probably costs a couple hundred bucks to make.

But yes, different strokes indeed, I've still enjoyed the 5'ers I've had. Just not willingly to take it from Panerai on the price anymore.

This

(unless you really *have* to have an inhouse movement)
