Singapore Rolex and Others

I'm off to Singapore in a few weeks for 8 nights. Last time I was there I wore my Sub, 15 years back, this time my new yachtmaster I think!

On to my question, what watch shops are worth look, especially for other brands like GO etc. Quite fancy their senator chronograph and also pano-whats-his-face.

What's cool on the to do and see list and what to avoid?

For Rolex, unfortunately you won't find a single piece for sale in all the stores. Everything is exhibition only.

Reputable grey dealers are Chuan Watch and Watch Capital, or have a browse in Far East Plaza 2nd floor, lots of grey dealers there too.

Went to SG in early June. It was eye-opening to realize most just driving a car, any car is wealthy. It's like 100k USD for basic COE plus cost of a basic average car.

What's the car rental/leasing market like?

LOL, rolex are not an investment... lets just say speculators are a lot here, also grey market dealers and scalpers as well.

OP should enjoy the sights in SG, culture, food and have fun at it.

I think SG is great for watch tourism! Go up and down and around Orchard ION and Orchard Rd for ADs, then to Far East Plaza and the Bencoolen for greys. If anything, you will see a lot of watches! Enjoy!

Far East - go to GoodTime Luxury and Watchbox.

Avoid Singapura Watches - the owner is a clown.

Go to Far East Plaza for grey dealers. The last few years that place has sprout out a dozen grey dealers. A few of the dealers are feeling the heat and has lowered their pricing, not a whole lot but little by little. U will find many BNIB watches there for sale.

As a tourist you can claim the sales tax (7%) on your purchase.

For 2nd hand and vintage you must go to Far East Plaza. You can also try Golden Landmark Shopping Center (rundown mall with many old-school watch repairs and vintage shops)

For new watches, it's exhibition only everywhere for Rolex, and many Tudor. But you can find other brands (Zenith, Breitling, Panerai...) In Orchard Road. They are all packed there in one place, very convenient.

For micro-brands, go to Watch Wonderland in Suntec City. They sell Baltic, and many other brands I never heard about before visiting the place last week.

For accessories like custom made leather straps, watch boxes, Bergeon tools... go to Mister Chrono in Hilton Hotel shopping gallery.

And don't forget to try the awesome food we have here!

Off-topic, but from my favorite list, and in no particular order:

Singapore laksa (don't mistake with Penang laksa)
Hokkien Mee (sometimes called prawn mee, mee means noodles)
Biryani rice with all sorts of curry
Chili stingray
Black pepper crab
Charsiew mee / duck Mee
ETC...

Chilli mud crab

Great place for food.

As far as Rolex dealers is concerned, like everywhere in the world, nothing to see except display models.

I tried on a nice Sky Dweller (display model) in Waikiki a few weeks ago. It was a nice fit, but who cares when you can't even order it, much less buy it.

Enjoy Singapore and obey they rules while you are doing it!

perfectly fine except if you visit Geylang (famous for it's nightlife, local food and durian, aka King of Fruits). probably safer to stuff the watch in your pocket and enjoy Geylang.

There’s absolutely no danger wearing a Rolex there either.

You can make this most all major Asian cities. Asia is 100% safest continent I’ve been with expensive items.

You can wear one Rolex on each wrist in Singapore, including Geylang. C'mon.

OP you gotta get some Bengawan Solo cookies. Bought a tin of their cashew sugee cookies. Sooo good. I kind of wished I knew what they tasted like, because I would have bought several more to take back.

When talking bout food. Lol.

Do visit a local hawker center.
Newton circus food center is more touristy but the real food experience lies in the cheaper food hawker centers. Prob nearby town would be jalan besar food center. Whampoa food center. And yes. Geylang is famous for good food too.

The best would be at chong pang or bedok 88 hawker center. The night scene plus the unhealthy bbq chicken wings. Satays. Drool

Lived in SG for only a few months... visit them all is my best advice :)

Just pretty please don't expect availability for rare / hard-to-get items at AD, as SG has a high concentration of wealth and an interesting society / social hierarchy 'structure'.
