Guys,

What do you think of RADO watches?

This one captured my attention - from an aesthetic point of view:

It is rated for 300 metres and I found that it uses an automatic ETA 2824-2 movement with 25 jewels that provides a power reserve of 38 hours. Extra-strong SuperLuminova (SLN) luminescent treatment on the hands and the red index dots should provide a good luminosity.

I don't know anything about Rado but I kind of like that as an over the top diver's watch. I would like to see a more natural shot of it but from a purely aesthetic perspective I think it is pretty cool looking. Looks very retro.

Rado is a Swiss manufacturer of watches, with headquarters in Lengnau, Switzerland. It is noted for its use of scratch-proof materials, a field in which it is considered a pioneer. Today the company produces about half a million watches a year with a staff of about 300 in total.

History
Formed in 1917, Rado initially produced watch movements only. In 1957 the company launched its first collection of watches under the Rado brand. In 1962 the Rado Diastar Original, the world's first scratch-proof watch, was launched. It has been in production ever since.

In 1983 Rado became part of the SMH group which was renamed in 1998 as the Swatch Group.

Design
Rado differs from some of the more traditional Swiss watchmakers in that it often uses unconventional materials and designs. Rado has pioneered the use of a number materials unique to watchmaking, e.g. ceramics, lanthanum and sapphire crystal.

Other than the material, newer Rado watches also look very different from those from most other makers. Market reaction to this is generally mixed, with some preferring the look of the more traditional makers, and others appreciating the more distinct Rado look.

If I'm not mistaken, that model is a throwback to their original design - still for sale new. Larger than you'd expect, I have tried one on and it was quite nice.

Back home in India, the "dowry" system still prevails. It's where the father of the bride-to-be bestows upon his son-in-law to be several gifts.....one of them being the very popular RADO Diastar.

Now I hate that "dowry" system and I've always been against it. The custom is prevalent amongst the Hindus and is still in vogue even today. And when that bloody RADO is associated with a custom I'm deadly against....you can imagine how I feel.

Sorry, just being honest. Their designs suck big time. I wouldn't have a RADO on my dead body.

For me,the things are more simple - I hate their design(I`m talking about ceramic ones),in combination with cheap(I didn`t say bad!) quartz and mechanic ETA movements.And all of that for price of one nice Omega,which is ridiculous to me.
But,model on your pic actually looks nice!

I agree, the ceramics don't appeal to my taste too.
But I found this one interesting and a nice retro look - and, for £675 or less, they are not expensive at all, taking into account the 300m rating and the ETA automatic (just remember that a Bell & Ross or a Panerai with the same kind of movement costs £3000+...not that I don't like them, of course, but I find this specific one a very honest deal).

Oops, I forgot to lay in with my comment. I don't like either of them either. I've seen their dress models and they don't do anything for me as well.

seriously, here in Pakistan I can understand what JJ means by hating the dowry system and the "rado" that comes with it..:)..and notr just that..we also associate the brand here with cheap labour returning from labour work in middle east ..sorry but thats how it is here :)
