The SD43 is perfect for me.
Is the 50th anniversary edition of the classic 1.220m SeaDweller.

Neither is rare and will never be.

My pick would be the previous black DSSD for it's totally over the top unrefined engineering.
Perfectly OK for a daily but not if you use dress shirts.

The new DSSD and it's blue version are worked over to appease more of the general public and lack this authentic feel imho.
Definitely in the minority here.

The red line on the SD is very tempting

I’ve owned every SS sport model; and the only one left now is the JC DSSD. If your wrist can handle it, IMO it’s the best SS sport model.

Me too:. Wife wears 16600 SD, and I the D-Blue.

I was really into the SD43 when it was announced and immediately thought it was the watch for me as I like a bit of heft. However, despite still never seeing one in person, the matte dial has begun to be a turn off as it looks slightly...not cheap, but maybe unfinished to me. Granted, this is simply through photos, so I could happily be mistaken once I see one in the flesh.

I didn't care for the imbalance of the original DSSD with regard to the bracelet, so the revised version seems like a winner.

They are both winners....I’d get both! If I could only get one it would be the SD43 as it is the Anniversary Edition. Not sure how many years they will roll with this edition, I don’t think it will be as long as the DSSD. So then it will be a very special time piece in the years to come.

I wish I could see the DSSD in person to even try it on to make my decision. I'm searching now for a SD43, but still wanted to see exactly how the DSSD look on my arm to compare. My 15 yo Sub now looks like a ladies watch since I've discovered the gym :o) It has sat in a drawer for literally 10 years.

I feel exactly the same, the original black DS was my first Rolex and when I tried on the JC 126660 it just didn’t do it for me. I thought the bracelet was too wide and it did not emit the same feeling of just being designed to be a technical marvel...

JC DSSD has probably the most beautiful dial that I have seen on any diver (second only to LV's dial), so is that a 'nicer' one of the two? To me, yes.

Have you tried them on?

What do you like? do you like a domed crystal and the way it makes the dial feel when viewed at an angle? or do you prefer a cyclops over the date for easier viewing? Do you wear lots of long sleeve shirts in which case the thickness of the watch would play a role in your decision? Are you a big guy whose wrist can make a DSSD disappear from a few ft away? or are you a 110 lb smaller build in which case both these watches will look ridiculously big on you?

I wanted a DSSD since they came out. Took me about 10 years to get into a position where I could afford one and the wait only made it sweeter. Few watches have really worked out to make me happy like this one has. Was a tough job to meet my expectations after drooling over them for a decade but my trusty DSSD still shines for me and has become my favorite watch. Fits like it was tailored to me. This watch looks on my wrist like the SUBC looks on many of yours: proportionate. I'm a big guy. I'd proudly wear a SD43 but my preference goes to the DSSD. Among many things, the thick, domed crystal gets me every time. Looks so cool, I can't stop telling the time! You can't go wrong with either. My 116660 is so great, I just traded into a new 126660 to keep in reserve. Go with your gut. You'll be happy with either. They're both incredible watches!

Own both but the D-Blue stands alone. My favorite watch.
