Icon5 Preferred domesticated cat breed?

Well, we have an updated dog thread going so why not a cat one?

Let's see those kitties!

I've had a Bengal and a Savannah for almost the past 15 years. Both are wonderful breeds.

Oliver (Bengal male):

Lilly (Savannah female. Sadly, we lost Lilly this past June to a throat tumor):

We now have a Savannah kitten (Brynn soon to be Josephine, after my late grandmother) expected to arrive toward the end of August:

Lucy was a sweet but undernourished neighborhood stray and only about a year old when we invited her into the house and then brought her to the vet to be spayed, not knowing if she'd even want to live here. We figured even if she didn't stay with us at least she wouldn't have more kittens. When she came home she decided she liked it here and though she was always free to come and go she must have liked the constant supply of food and attention so she adopted us. That was about 14 years ago. For years she used to go out and visit the neighbors and would even come in for the night when I called her name Since she's getting old now she spends the colder months entirely in the house but now that it's warm she likes to spend a few hours each day laying about in the screenhouse. We count ourselves lucky to have found and been able to give this former stray such a good life and joke that it's her world and we merely live in it.

That's true.

And I've also heard that cats are loyal to their home more than they to their owner.

And that dogs are more loyal to their owner than their home.

Everyones got an opinion I suppose.

This Russian Blue showed up for vittles one day and has been here for six+ years now. I'm away at the moment but a neighbor is feeding and watering him. He's got an insulated crate with heat pad for his preferred outdoor living but may spend a little more time under the basement steps now that his snout is turning grey (this picture is two years old).

I'm not home because I am on a Cat Rescue in Tempe. My deceased BFF had a cat which became listless, stopped cleaning herself, and licked the fur nearly completely off two sides. The cat (Bones) was to travel back to the east coast with me for hospice care.

So I get here, the cat is filthy, and Cat Rescue decides a shower is wanted. Bones is ushered into the walk-in, along with a full bucket of tepid water. I soap her up with Johnson's Baby Shampoo. She had pert' near completely stopped cleaning herself. But for Cat Rescue, there are no surprises (we once corrected a cat which had eaten a two-foot length of twine).

We got along famously until the rinse. The howling began but in an empty house, the delicate are not bothered. Bones was rinsed clean, toweled, then got her blow dry and brush out. By the end of that, she was nuzzling the blow dryer.

Next, we work on diet. The vet said more soft food for the protein, but Bones was overeating. Reduce the can, more plain meat. Alaskan salmon, raw. Yum!

Exercise also. Running and jumping before morning chow, in pursuit of the brush which she loves so much. Low table, high speaker, other table, with brushing 'rewards'. Several loops is enough for this 13+ feline.

Lastly, engagement. Lots of talking, more plain company. Ignore not my housemate, I preach to the guardians of Bones.

Her nervous breakdown was reversed in just ten days. Bones is again a joy, and visits our BFF's room after a six month lapse. Like old times, Bones lounges, tummy up, waiting for the next rubbie. "Mom" will be keeping Bones after all.

As the proverb goes, sometimes you just need a bit of raw salmon and a piece of twine to chase to feel like a cat again.

Himalayan. Brother and sister. Last picture is what they look like when we get them shaved for the Houston summer. Not that they go outside, they’re smarter than that.

Awesome pets, I like dogs a lot, but these are my preference.

Cooper is half Maine Coon and has the best personality of any cat we have had.

Ragdoll. This was Joey. He walked into my garage late one night as a kitten. Malnourished, ear mites, fleas. I was standing next to my Ducati talking to a friend. Joey bonded to the motorcycle. He was a dog wannabe. He'd play fetch, go for walks on a leash, and he loved to lounge around the house. He died at age three of a distal aortic blood clot. I still miss him.
