Slate Grey dial Royal Oak?
No matter how I see others enthusiasts praise the grey/ ruthenium dial it still looks as dull as when it was introduced on the 154000 the 155000 makes no difference to the desirability. But hey one man's taste is only that .Great for some and not for others. I have tried to like it and see why others go for it but it just doesn't cut it for me. Sorry guys hope no one's offended

I personally liked the 15400 with the grey dial. I thought it was different from the typical blue and black all the brands were pumping out..

Have you seen it IRL or is your opinion based on photos only? Having worn both 15400 & 15500 I don’t see how either could ever be described as dull but as you say....each to their own. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would have made it just a little darker more like rolex rhodium color for just a little more contrast with the stainless steel but certainly not dull in my opinion. Im glad its not black in a sea of black dialed watches...

Slate Grey dial Royal Oak?
I like the monochromatic look with the grey dial. Are you saying it’s dull because of the color or Royal Oak in general? To each of their own certainly. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

I am merely expressing my viewpoint on this particular dial .I agree that it is welcome in a sea of black dials everywhere. I just think it blends far too much into the steel and doesn't stand out like the black and blue. The golden dial on the white gold version of the 15202BC for example is more distinctive in my opinion. I would really like to warm to the slate grey dial. Another member has suggested a slightly darker grey, this might appeal to me more. Until then the grey dial may grow on me, time will tell

I see where you’re coming from. The current lineup works at the moment, at least for me anyway. If you want contrast get black, silver (15400), or the blue. I’m glad they didn’t make the grey any darker or lighter for 15500. |

When I had the opportunity to place a deposit on either black or grey I felt the grey was too monochromatic for me and ended up with the black one. Now when I see it on instagram and forums it looks nicer to me then when I saw it in person. But everyone praises it so I guess to each his own.

I don't usually like grey dials on SS as they all blend in together, I have a SMP with grey/silver dial but it has a blue bezel, and yet I think it will probably still look better on a blue or black strap.

I have the grey dial and love it. It may be monochromatic compared to the other colors, but check out the picture below where it can look pretty dark in certain lighting.
I have a thing for grey dials and I find them more unique than all the blacks, whites and blues out there. |

Pictures do not do it justice, when you say it in real life it is beautiful. Cant wait to get mine. And then I can really decide if the 15400 or the 15500 is nicer, but I'm pretty sure the 15400 will win!

I feel it might be the best dial option...

Wouldn't be my top pick. White, blue, or black

For me, after seeing a number of pics it’d be my second choice after blue.

For me, gray dial is gorgeous. If I didn’t have a blue dial 15400 then I would have gotten a gray dial. The black dial is boring IMO and doesn’t play with the light or could be described as intricate, it is just bland and black. And I say this as a black dial Royal Oak owner. That said, my black dial Royal Oak is a rose gold 15300OR and the contrast of the black dial to the AP rose gold is pure class and gives it a Miami summer look, but I wouldn’t want a black dial on a regular stainless RO. For a standard stainless Royal Oak when you can’t get a blue dial then gray dial is the way to go.

The black dial has good contrast against a rose gold case, but I don’t think it is very complex or has many shades at all. I’m saying this as I have a black dial 15300OR rose gold RO.

Why start a thread to say you do not like something? I don't get it.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. All I know is that the grey dial literally drops jaws (although not drawers, in my experience) of every watch fan (and even some normal people) I've come across. Can't say the same for any of my black dialed watches, not that it matters.

I had the choice between black and grey, I went ... black! It's all down to personal taste, I was on the fence over which one to choose, both dials are nice.

Like everyone else said - personal taste dictates preference. If I was trying to get a 15500 at the moment it would definitely be the ruthenium dial.
