Markets been very resilient last month or so. It feels like nothing can bring it down... cautiously optimistic here.
Made a couple of quick swing trades on nvmi and mu. Also, enjoying the move in HD as a longer term play. |

Right now I'm far more interested in investing in small business.
The stock market just seems too volatile and propped up on nonsense. In a complete fluke I invested in a startup about 18 months ago. It was a long term investment idea. But they had an opportunity and sold it. I'm getting paid out at 2 and a half of what I bought in at. I'll keep what ive got in the markets and ride it out. But I'm all about embracing small opportunities that are essentially long term. Creating diversity. Betting on people rather than news. And propping up the local economy.

HRTX is in the NEWS!
With all the news about the Opioid Crisis in the USA and abroad this drug could play a pivotal role in reducing the need to prescribe these addictive pain killers right after surgery and result in less Opioid Addiction! This drug could eventually dominate the non-opioid, postoperative pain market.
I'm still bullish and it appears that many institutional investors are too! Yes they do feel exhausted.
The Nikei was up over 400 points yesterday morning only to drop to -20 something by the end of the day. Down again today already - 231 points so far. The US market seems drained and exhausted as well. This should be interesting when the markets open tomorrow. |

A lot of talk about a correction lately. I hope it happens sooner rather than later. I feel like it is inevitable. I would personally like it to happen so that I can implement my master plan.

Personally I prefer an approach that breaks things down into a fundamental assessment of long term value vs alternatives. All of which is predicated upon the markets eventual realization of this mispricing. In the near term I am more concerned about liquidity, volatility, and risk mitigation. Investing based upon broad markets moves is like deciding to start home construction based on the weather. Kind of makes sense but leads to putting off decisions and some really dumb ones. Pick up Graham and Dodd's Fundamentals of Securities analysis. Written in 1934 it has served many well. |

I am not seasoned one bit. I am every bit the amateur. But I do use an FA from ML for my investments. I was being, or trying to be funny. My master plan is simply depositing some cash I have been sitting on. I don't want to do so before the eventual correction. And I don't want to do something stupid like buy a new car while I am waiting (joking again. Definitely not doing that). My strategy right now is simply long term. Once I have it in those dedicated accounts, I figure it is untouchable. I do have a few stocks that I have purchased on a hunch and those I might play with a bit, but that is less than 5% of my portfolio. And even that said, I highly doubt I will touch any of those either.

So I am relatively new at paying attention to the market movements. It has only be a year or so.
But these swings lately seem crazy. Is this typical?

The market has actually been a lot more static (sideways) than is usual. This recent volatility, as a percentage, is minimal and below average.

Interestingly enough my great uncle, a stock broker, did just that. Except it was off a cliff.

Ouch!!! Those were some bad times back then and major volatility (>10%) can happen from time to time. As a beginning investor or trader you are doing the right thing to not put any money in now. The best thing you can do is read some market educational books to educate yourself on how to approach your finances as a trader/investor. If you have any questions pm me and I can try to guide you. It’s contradictory to read that people have long term goals yet are trying to time the market on a correction.
Some FA’s are as clueless as their clients about investing. It’s the same thing as what do you call a doctor who barely got through med school - a doctor! Passing a series 7 or 63,65 isn’t hard. What matters is how informed one is and how they are able to use that information to make forward looking assumptions. Become very well informed before investing 1 cent. |

There's a sucker born every minute.
People are chasing the dream. It's a dream built on clouds. Soon, it will all disappear.

I really dislike most stocks unless you get in pre ipo. But right now
Its all robots/AI MAZOR robotics is a baby ISRG. Medtronics slowly swallowing them up. Amazing tech to help surgeons. Sierra wireless to connect all devices. only like sub 10% of devices are connected will reach 100% so you have a lay up there. * disclaimer I am not a financial adviser, don't trust me or anyone else as my opinions could be biased* edit: careful with bitcoin while I like it, the FED is creating their own coin which would lay havoc on the sector. Mark Cuban explained it best. Bitcoin is a collectable has little real world usage but was the first and has limited supply. Just hold and tell your grandkids you got one of the only tokens on a technology that changed our lives. |
