How do you wash a nato strap?

Probably a stupid question but what's the best way to wash the sweat, dirt, grime off of fabric/nato straps? Can these go in the washing machine? If not do you soak then in soapy water or something like that? Is there a preferred method?

If it’s nylon, I’d use dawn and a baby toothbrush. Anything stiffer will toughen up the strap.

Boil it in water or vinegar to kill off all the sweat soaked in from the skin over time and the bacteria that grows on it. Then dawn & tooth brush.

Then again they’re relatively cheap, maybe just replace it - ?

I use a little fairy liquid " dawn " in a basin with hot water and give it a squeeze around then put it out flat on paper kitchen towel and press the water out and leave to air dry or drape over a radiator.
I have two identical straps that I swap out for washes and don't have to wait to dry.
Sounds a faff but takes seconds really.

Throw it in with your laundry, yet air dry.

I put it in a sock, tie the sock and throw in washing machine with rest of laundry. Works great.

Great tips all around. Lots of different methods I see. This sock method sounds like a great idea. Never would have thought of this - thanks!

Likewise, but everything goes in the dryer after that. Comes out perfect every time.

Back when I wore nato straps I used to put mine in the washing machine, in a small zippered net laundry bag.

What's the best way to clean the inside of a leather strap?

Used to just douse mine with cologne when I wore them on my watches as a teenager...worked pretty well.
