The good news is that the Explorer is such a versatile watch, it's gonna go great with any of your choices.
The bad news is...well, there's no bad news. |

I would change up a bit and get the Omega if it can be purchased with a significant discount. I am and have always been a Submariner fan and probably get ride of the Explorer and get a Submariner. I would wear it for a bit and then figure out my next purchase. Two black face Rolex watches would not be my two watch collection. The Omega would solve that though.

Should I throw a Sea Dweller 16600 into the mix? I haven't managed to try one yet, will it likely wear too big for me?

I think this order of choices would best pair with what you have:
1. Explorer 2 16570 Polar 2. Sub date 16610 3. Sub no date 14060/M Regarding a 16600, I don't think they wear big at all. I found it to be simply a matter of being thicker, not "bigger." If you threw that into the mix, I would put it a #2 or 3. Polar still comes in first. |

I own an Explorer 39 MK1, a Polar 16570, Sub date 16610 and the Seamaster Trilogy LE.
The Sub date is the most striking watch of the group. There is something about the bezel that catches the light just right that is mesmerizing to me. I have small wrists and the bracelet does not fit just right which bothers me. The Explorer 2 16570 Polar was the watch that I wanted for the longest and looks great in pictures. It is more washed out in real life and gets the least wear. I found one NOS a few years ago and couldn't bring myself to take off the stickers for two years. While it is not my favorite on my wrist, I will never sell it. The Omega '57 Seamaster trilogy LE is the most comfortable watch of the group. It has just enough bling to be noticed but the small bezel makes it more of a dressy diver to me than the others. Some people have complained about the size of the clasp, but it is adjustable and adds to the comfort. This or my Seiko are the go to watches when I'm just kicking about. I don't have a major favorite among the group, my theory has always been to buy the nicest watch that you can afford, I have never been disappointed. |

I agree that the Subs had more of a 'wow' factor when trying them on....I find that sometimes under the lights the way the white gold indices shimmer on my Explorer also looks stunning. I'm not sure if the Polar Exp.2 would have such a striking effect with them painted black? The main thing that draws me to the Seamaster is the adjustable clasp and living in a hot climate that would definitely come in handy. The Exp.2 and Seamaster i could get for a similar price however the Subs I would need to add around $1500 more. |

I think the Sub Date is your best option. My reasons are: I think it looks better than the other three watches listed, the date function has always been useful to me, the glidelock is a great feature, it will hold its value better than the Seamaster, it has a scratch resistant ceramic bezel (the Explorer II doesn’t have this). But getting back to my first point it’s the most attractive watch there in my view. There is a good argument that the Sub looks cleaner but I prefer the date and cyclops! Good luck deciding, it’s a difficult decision.

Although, the sub no date looks the best on your wrist, My recommendation will be the Sub date 16610. I prefer the date function and think it is more versatile.

Thanks Sunnygps. I do want whatever I buy to look good on the wrist! It's perculiar that they can wear and appear differently in the pics given that the Rolex's are all 40mm but I agree. I think there are slight differences in the dimensions actually. Possibly with no solid end links helps the No date look the best suited for my wrist from those pictures also.

If I went with a no date Sub, is it something consider that it has the same movement as the Explorer and maybe not worth adding purely due to aesthetics? I really like how it felt and looked.

If you’re keeping the Explorer, I’d go Exp 2. If you decide to trade the Explorer, I’d go Sub ND.
