If the 5167 was available at msrp I would have never asked the question. It becomes a more difficult choice when it's trading at a 50% premium. And of course I would pick the 5968 in an heartbeat if I could! |

Daytona must be in bracelet... "Icon"
Too bad Daytona can't be switch around bracelet or rubber...... Between the 5167 & Daytona on Oysterflex..... My choice is 5167 bracelet plus optional rubber strap & clasp for switch around fun.....

OP, you and I are in the same boat. I want the 5167a bad but im having a tough time swallowing the gray prices. If I could get one at MSRP then it would already be on my wrist. Even a few grand over I would pay but not 10-12 grand.

This would be my last piece. When I bought my first Aquanaut 18 years ago, it was so unloved, it's almost funny to see what happened to them now. I got rid of it to help with my Nautilus purchase 4 years ago but now I miss it. However I'm not sure if it's worth the premium (like buying a house in 06) hence looking at the Daytona. |

I’d have to say the Daytona is much better bang for the buck

Gotta be the Daytona here.....IMO that's the best modern Daytona dial on the market.

For me, it's the Daytona. The 5167a is outrageous and the dial and bezel are some next level shit - just didn't like *that* slim of a watch for a sports piece. Not everyone agrees with me. I sold my 5167a to fund a 5164a or a dress piece. Undecided there.
But -- you really have to weigh that against YOUR own desires. Both are beautiful pieces. To non-watch people, both are equally unnoticeable (only watch geeks care about what is on your wrist). As yourself these questions and decide for yourself (you'll find opinions here, not answers): 1) Does the brand matter to me? 2) Do I want a watch with heft and presence? 3) Will scratches on the bezel bother me? Do I want my watch to retain that 'perfect' look as long as possible? 4) Am I constructing my collection / acquisitions around a theme / brand? Is this 'filling a hole' or just something you want? 5) If the Aquanaut takes in value (which ... it could), will you be affected? |

5167 for the practicality, wearability, movement finish, it also looks much better in person. for daytona, i would only go with bracelet version either full steel or full gold.

My exact dilemma. I think $25-26k for the 5167 is fine, but that represents the upper limit. I was offered two on the grey market recently, and both at $28k. I declined as I simply don't think the watch is worth that. The closer one gets to $30k, the better to get the 116519 Daytona. That's an icon, with or without the OF strap.
