Syncing Minute and Second Hand - Anybody?

I am obsessed with ensuring that I synchronize the second and minute hands on my watched so that the minute hand is pointing directly at the correct minute when the seconds hand is at 12:00. I think there is something wrong with me

Anybody else or am I the only one? On my Rolex it is relatively easy but my other watches with the gear backlash being more than it is on the Rolex, it takes some patience and some practice.

I definitely do that as well :) it legitimately bugs me when the minute hand doesn't directly hit the marker!

If I have to set the time on a watch I'm using an alarmclock with an atomic clock signal and if I set the time on the watch I also want it to be spot on to the second.

But after the time is set I don't care if the watch is not spot on anymore after wearing it for a few days because I will rotate my watches frequently and a few seconds off don't bother me anymore.

I don’t bother setting my watch to the second, but I understand why others may choose to

I only do it for customers watches. On my own watches I really don't care anymore

Oh I absolutely do that. When that second hand reaches 12 I want that minute hand directly on the minute marker. You aren't the only one with this particular disorder LOL

I do it too. It’s easy on my 4130 Daytona but on the 3135 there is some play in the minute hand and it’s kind of tricky. I wish I could stop caring.

Likewise Bas as my life is not run to the exact second, far more real important things to worry about.

I echo this sentiment. I find that all my watches "drift" from the lining up, some more than others. After a few days I am on to another so...

Yep, every time.

Does it bother anyone else when watching watch restoration videos on YouTube that most of the time they don't align them? I literally scream out load, what's the point to doing all that work and then make the hands all wonky.

Oh most definitely I don’t really care so much about the gain or loss of the seconds per day but they have to hit the mark at exactly the right spot +/- 5 seconds in that department is unacceptable.

I only do that if I am checking accuracy on a new purchase, or when I do my annual accuracy checks. Otherwise I just look at the time on an atomic clock and set it to whatever time is on there.

It’s going to deviate anyway, it’s a mechanical watch...

Yes, definitely. That’s why I get disappointed with quartz watches where the seconds hand doesn’t line up. It’s a constant irritant!

I do this too and it's one of the few OCD habits I have with my watch. I am glad I am OCD about setting my time precisely and not about hairline starches and if the crown lines up perfectly.

Yep, mostly when I check accuracy on new watches.

I agree though that for some watches, it's much harder.

I had this obsession when I bought my first luxury watch 20+ years ago. I couldn't care less today.

When I had one or two watches I did it when I thought of it. I'm not concerned any more.

The only time I did it recently was to see if my Sky Dweller would roll the date and month at midnight. They clicked over at 00.00.04. Good enough for me.
