For me, less so a question of gold vs steel or Rolex vs Patek, moreso a question of daydate vs aquanaut.

I vote the presidential.

I went Rolex YG.

If the Patek 5712 were around $40k, that'd be a tough decision for me.

The other tough decision in that price range is the A Lange Datograph.

Gold. Always gold. When the apocalypse comes, you can at least barter the gold for bottled water. Stainless steel will get you nothing.

The DD.

I don't find the Patek appealing at all, but I know that it's a very popular watch.

I bought an aquanaut before it was fashionable for 16.5.... it was great watch and the most reliable patek I had , however, even at that money I thought it was overpriced.

Rolex gold not even a second thought

The asking prices for a 5167 are a joke. It’s not even anywhere in the same league as a DD40.

Neither.
I'd get a 5164 or White gold daytona on oysterflex

all depends what you have in your collections. Personally I would pick Patek.

+1

I love the Aquanaut, but IMO it's insanely overpriced for a non-hacking watch in Stainless Steel.

I would rather have the YG DD TBH, and I'm not a Gold guy.

Personally to add a third option, I would go RG OF Daytona.

But if only those two, depended on where I lived. If Asia or Europe, the Patek. If US then DD.
Why would location affect your watch choice?

The 5167 is more fitting to my style. Wildly overpriced but it’s fantastic.

I have both. Get Patek its the next level in refinement from the case complexity to the legendary PP movement. Only benefit the DD has it's gold.

Struggling to answer. On one hand the metal doesn’t matter too much to me.

If I like the watch it doesn’t matter what it comes in.

I don’t like the nautilus or aquanaut all that much. However the rose gold chocolate dial 5711 is a cracking looking watch.

I’d pick a wg DD, probably olive dial,

I’m sorry. Take that PP off the dial, and it simply not at all an appealing watch. I’m not a giant fan of the DD, but they are different watches and different looks, I would not just say well I have 30k to blow so which is it. I buy for function, as I still use my watches for what they were made to do and I value versatility above all. I would suggest you take some time and consider the two carefully otherwise you will be flipping soon.

DD all day. No comparison. 5167 is not really that special. That's more 5711 money.
