I do disagree with the last part of it:
“The astronauts will then board the ISS. When they return, the watch will likely be returned to NASA.”

He has worn that particular watch during other trips to ISS and is his own personal watch.

The significance is that Omega garners the limelight and should be crafting a continuation ad campaign by gifting a special 1 of 1 for Elon Musk with moondust on the dial.
