Genuine complaint

Forget all this repeated rubbish about For Sale etc.

This is genuine.

Why does the Escape key delete the contents of message if you hit it accidentally.

Quite often I type out a lengthy post (usually praising JJ and not being mean about him at all) and then I hit escape with my fat fingers by accident and I lose the lot.

Nine times out of ten, I don't bother to retype it.

Any way this feature can be disabled?

J

Sorry Jim, but I can't duplicate that on my computer. Perhaps it is just your machine. I AM using a Mac, but that should not have any bearing on this issue.

I have no idea why you are experiencing this problem.

My suggestion: Stay away from the Escape key!!!

On my keyborad the ESC key is all the way up in the upper left corner, primarily to keep idiots like me from doing exactly what you experienced, Jim. Maybe you need to move the key to an out of the way location.

I find that other unfortunate key combinations have the same effect. Unfortunately, I can't duplicate them. They seem to happen randomly while I am using more than one finger to type.

Oops, I just did it again and deleted this entire message. Oh well, it was the thought that counts.

Perhaps you and Jim need to stick to one finger typing, Ed!

Actually, I'm OK if I stick to typing with one finger from each hand. It's when I start to get daring and use more than one finger from each hand that I run into trouble.

I'm giving this a test and lets see, no when I press the escape key on my Toshiba Notebook, running MS Visa, nothing happens at all.

So I think you might be doing something else Jim to have this problem, or maybe you have set a shortcut of some sort set in your computer's software so that the escape key has this effect that you indicated.

Yes, that is a distinct possibility that I didn't think of. Congrats on suggesting that!

I guess that's why you get paid the big bucks, eh Steve?!?

The ESC key is like miles away, way up in the North-West corner of any standard keyboard!!

You sure little Willy Woo is not coming up from behind the keyboard and getting his fat, grubby fingers all over the ESC key?

Yeah, but we think Jim's problem is with some macro or shortcut that he has set up and assigned to the Escape key. Even HE thinks that could actually be the problem.

At least your eyesight is in good shape, JJ. That's probably from spotting the sheep you want WAAAAAY across the field, eh?

In fact, about 99.44 % of this thread falls into that category.

Maybe he can hit his ESC key and delete this entire thread. That would free up some server space.
