I was initially trying to find a place to service the bracelet because the gold center links towards the head were torn in some areas. I thought the bracelet was one of the essential elements of this watch. While looking for that specific service I found the Rolex Forum. Mind you, this was prior to my enlightenment from the knowledge base here. I quickly found a thread on bracelet repair and decided between Rolliworks or Hong Kong. As I was telling my buddy over a few beers today, I regret not servicing the watch first after having read so many posts here on the forum. Waterproof and function first to protect the promary elements which seem to be the dial, hands, case, and movement--I think in that order. I joined just a few months ago and the bracelet has been out for about two months now. Definitely would have changed the order of operation had I spent a little more time researching. That said, it will be the next thing. I'm thinking The Watch Buyer's Group in Pasadena. Has anybody had experience with them? they seem to have excellent reviews and an impressive warranty. Damn. That sounds like an advertisement. Ahhh yes, impeccable credentials. Hahhaha!

That is an awesome Tiffany GMT!!!
The bracelet can be fully restored. The watch can be serviced sympathetically having regard to its antiquity and be brought back to near-new condition. Cool Seiko !!! Man you got great taste (and so too your father)! That's a family treasure to cherish.

As promised, here are a few quick pics. Just noticed I put it on backwards...One of the end links is rotating a bit much for my liking and the other fits ok, I may (will most likely) send it back. Aside from that, it is much tighter and as expected lost abut an inch in length. I need an extra link to make it really fit my wrist again but it does fit. Probably the way it's supposed to be worn to mitigate stretch but not the way it feels good wearing, IMO. Honest opinions welcome.

Apparently Rik does great work. Lovely watch and I like the two-tone insert.

Here's a comparison pic. I tried to scale the two as closely as possible and as you can see it lost about an inch in length if you count the visible difference and the fact that it is now on the last adjustment slots. It does look quite nice. Many thanks to the people at Rolliworks.

Thought I would revisit this thread and answer some of the responses. thank you for your comments, I have posted a few pics of the bracelet in it's refurbished glory if you are interested, and I did indeed get a leather strap. Although, I still won't wear the watch until it is properly serviced.

Update! Just had my watch serviced by Phillip Ridley! He was a pleasure to work with! Always willing to pick up my call and answer my stupid questions. He also helped source an appropriate bezel ring because the one that was on there was not working and I like things to work. The bezel insert is the same damaged one that has always been on it far as I know. Apparently, there was a little water intrusion at some point and a few of the gears we damaged, which he replaced upon inspection along with the reverser gears and a few other bits. Thank you very much Phillip for the excellent work. A few pics!

Just a thought about the Tiffany dial that posed a question Wouldn’t RSC know by the serial if this watch was retailed by Tiffany or through the 1989 service? Or maybe Tiffany would know?

Congrats on getting it back the way it did. Veru nice watch. Mr. Ridley worked his magic
The one endlink needs some more adjustment, should not be so difficult for a DIY

Another update. Went to Rolex BH and got an appropriate insert for this watch. In other words, full disco ball! Would have liked to get a period correct, somewhat fat-font version, but too expensive at the moment. I will replace this one eventually but I think it looks quite nice. In case you are wondering, Rolex BH charged me $171 for this insert and I kept the all brown insert that was on it. I'm quite sure the keeping part was an additional charge as I think the insert is only $61. My advise, if there is a Rolex AD you have been working with, get it from them… On another note, the photo does not do this watch justice. The insert actually looks quite good!

I don't thinks it needs adjustment so much as full replacement. These are the American made endlinks and I have come to the conclusion that having the small metal tube in the end link like on the Swiss version bracelet end links is the way to go. If anyone can confirm that please post a comment. Should I get the 455 J, 450s, what?

I had just serviced it about 2 months ago. However, when I brought it in to Rolex befor to service they had to authenticate prior to anything and service was required once I got it back. Instead I used Phillip Ridley. Glad I did!

Update
Got a period correct bezel insert. It is not installed yet as I just laid it on top of the other one to get an idea of the look. I will post another when I do actually install it. Thank you @Springer for helping with the selection! I very much appreciate it! |

Congrats and well done on all the work done! I would keep the bezel you originally had in the watch. Love the faded tones.
