People are really paying 70k on a 5711?

Dear friends I know I don't belong here. Just an honest question please. Do you think people are really giving 70k on an 5711?

A $70k 5711 -1a should come with some therapy sessions.

I'm not questioning market price. Just thinking out loud probably. As watch community we know better. Just curious if anyone here would actually pay that for one.

Secondary prices are out of control. You can get a AP ROO for less than a Daytona now.
You can get a precious metal Daytona for less than SS. And even a Patek precious metal is also less than the secondary nautilus price.
It’s silly. I’m waiting it out.

A close friend recently paid 65 for a late 2018. I thought he was crazy but I guess some people really want one bad enough.

Haha my brother in law is one of those guys. He gave me a Supreme fanny pack, but I guess you're supposed to wear it on the front of your chest? Not really my style, so I let my 10 year old son use it to carry his EpiPen around while we were traveling in London. Which we proceeded to forget at a restaurant one night. When you count the price of the EpiPen, we left a lot of money at the table! That and the whole life-saving medication issue . So back to the restaurant I went

Supreme mike Tyson will cost you at least 1k. So 5711 being 70k is typical.

Is paying $30K for a stainless steel 3 hand watch perfectly logical but $60K insane? It’s all insane. Just pick your spot and go with it. If you make $100K a year and have a bunch of debt don’t do it. If you have $50M plus just pay what it takes to get what you want when you want.

Its all relative. 70k might be just chump change to the Super Rich. Kind of like we buy a Casio..

That is roughly what is being asked around here. No idea if they are getting it.

A white 5711 posted for sale on the forum for 50k+q
As someone said the price has been taming a bit though
Perhaps will end up like property bubbles one day..?

A friend just recently sold two in span of a week.

67K for a 2017 model and 71K for a 2018 model. And both are pre-owned. Not NOS.

Just happy i was able to get mine at retail two years ago.

With Social Media, conspicuous consumption has gone thru the roof, so these ultra Veblen goods are still being bought even at these outrageous prices... but they are slightly coming down now, Chronext have wiped £6-10K off most off their Nautiluses.

I'd argue it has less to do with social media and more to do with low interest rates. Money needs to go somewhere.

Asking and getting are typically very different things. I do believe that customers do exist that will just pay but I think they are few and far between. The prices have eased up a bit and many lay it off to the time of the year. Maybe, but at some point it will correct and when it does it will be the biggest shakeout for watches we have ever seen. Many will lose a lot and the industry will never be the same again. And it only has itself to blame.

Its the people who want the hot thing now and have incredible amounts of money. For someone who earns 200 million a year what is 70K? When these are no longer the cool thing the market corrects to MSRP or just over quickly because people will just not want them as much where they are more attainable. Status of having the impossible is then gone and the watch has to trade on its own merits.
