Deepsea Real or Fake?
Client wants to sell me this. I have my doubts as the clasp does not close properly but can't find any other red flags. No box or papers. Movement seems to be OK. Any advice before I take the plunge?

Even if it's real - why is the clasp not able to be closed properly? Was the watch dropped?

No idea. He had been wearing it with the extension out when he came in with it so I don't think he even noticed it didn't close properly. Here is a pic of what I mean plus some more pics.

Just my opinion, it doesn't look genuine to me. The rehaut doesn't seem to line up as usual. The endings seem rough and the brush on the bracelet doesn't look spec. I am not an expert on this model. I know more about 5 and 6 digit subs. Just my opinion

Also, the movement looks like a clone but the pictures are not clear enough to verify that.

Who the heck opens a DSSD? The tool to pressure test is costs $15,000 and no ADs has it, it would have to be send to Dallas or New York to be properly tested.

Anyway, I'd like to buy it but I may just pass without papers. Again any input is greatly appreciated. |

OK movement is genuine - I am sure to that.
What year is the watch, it should be 2008 or after Case engravings do look suspicious to me, what is the color of HE valve? Adam

"G" is good its 2010 and your movement is after 2008.
Movement is 100% genuine Case - I am not 100% sure. but I think probably yes. - sorry I can not say 100% on case adam

So I can not believe case was replaced with a fake. I am pretty sure that the case will be genuine, if the case back is TITANIUM and the color matches the HE valve Its all good adam

It's obviously had the bracelet and case back removed/replaced previously by someone lacking the training/skill to do so. The bracelet issue looks like it may just be a function of the glidelock being adjusted to it's maximum. That said, I would have the following concerns: * The apparent cracks in the bezel insert (bottom of the 2 in "20", top of the 0 in "40"). Looks like a pretty decent gash at the 48 mark as well. Possibly just superficial, or even just hair/lint or photographic artifact? If the bezel is cracked all the way through, it is not cheap to replace. * The missing Delrin compression ring gasket and rubber sealing gasket on the case/case-back (possibly present/intact but out of frame?). For further clarity on the bracelet, you might post a couple close-ups of both the outter clasp coronet and inner clasp coronet/scroll work. Also, just to clarify: The finish on the He valve should match the case, not the matte/dull case-back. |

Only the ROLEX TUDOR do they match, but that is because TUDOR case is also TITANIUM and not shiny steel Adam

I'm no expert but the watch has been well worn. Is that corrosion pitting on the case ?

My understanding is that Rolex 116660 Deep Sea, whose HEV and case back are both constructed from titanium. Then again, here is a photo of a 116660 HE valve and case and it does look all SS So my bad on that Thanks

As far as I known, this is a real Rolex movement.
The watch looks worn and definitely not in a "mint" condition, and clasp should be closing properly.
