5711R or 5726/1A-001 Stainless Steel

Hi Guys,

Fairly recent comer to the world of Haute Horlogerie and Patek.
Managed to finally get 5167 (thanks DavidSW) but bug had well and truly bitten me. While I love the 5167 (and it gets most of my wrist time against Hulk and Panerai) I really want to add Nautilus to my collection. As you are all well aware, the chance of buying new or pre-owned 5711 at a reasonable price for a newcomer are next to nill. So I've been searching high and low for a new nautilus.

While AD hasn't confirmed it yet, I should be able to get my hands on either 5711 in rose gold (on a bracelet) or 5726 in SS on a bracelet.
Both will be new stock. The plan is to keep 5167 and add the new Nautilus to my daily rotation. (desk driver duties).

Now to the question: which Nautilus 5711R or 5726/1A would make for a better daily watch? Would 5711R be "too much" as a daily? Is it just a special occasion watch?

Would 5726 be more suitable as a daily? Ideally I would love to own both of these pieces, but bank balance only allows for one at the moment.
I love 5726 complication but 5711R feels very special indeed.
Does anyone here use 5711R as a daily or would 5726 be more pragmatic?

Would really appreciate any comments/suggestions

5711R is an excellent, not too blingy watch that can be dressed up or down. but it scratches very easily, this IMHO restricts daily wearability unless you take particular care. but i guess the 5726A will also be a scratch magnet.
i used the 5711R daily for about three weeks which resulted is quite a few scratches....

Thanks for your response Pam66.
So did you end up keeping your 5711R or did you replace it with something bit more scratch resistant?

i added a rolex day date 40 YG but surely won't part with the 5711R - except possibly for a 5980R (the one on the gold bracelet).

If I didn’t already have a 5711a, I’d totally get a 5711/1r. To this day, I contemplate a trade rather frequently.

I have a 5726 on bracelet. It’s a good daily watch if you have a non labor type job description. I have seen the 5711R, and like it but I’m comfortable wearing an all Gold watch at work. I have no issues with my 5712R, my RG YM or BLRO becuase they pass under the radar. All of this being said, it really depends on your environment IMHO.

flip the 5711a with a great profit and pay up the small amount to get the R, you will not regret the move. a week ago i met a 5711a owner on an airplane and he tried to pursuade me all the way from hongkong to dubai to swap watches with $$$$ add-on:::)))

I wouldn't get a gold watch on a bracelet for a daily. I would vote 5711R as i prefer it, but just not as a daily. To me its an occasional wear watch as I know i would scratch up the bracelet too much if wearing it every day and then it would bug me. Its not too "loud" for a daily though IMO, just too soft.

Given the criteria 5726/1A. Its a great looking watch too so its not a bad choice. Im considering it.

thanks for all your feedback guys.

I work in the office so scratches aren't an issue I need to contend with.
I am however aware that some clients might misconstrue the gold watch as a sign that they are "paying too much" I've seen this petty attitude in the past.

Has anyone come across this attitude wearing the gold watch before?

Would also love to hear from anyone who wears 5726 as a daily.

Lastly, would you suggest that something like 5712R on a strap would be more inconspicuous than 5711R on a bracelet?

I own and love the 5711/1R but would not have it as a one and only, but as you have the 5167 I think you are covered and can wear the 5711/1R more selectively. As for customers, well if they know the 5711 they will probably the 5726 as well so not that much difference there.

While we are on the topic how does 5726 on the bracelet compares to the same on the strap? Few people seem to comment that Nautilus "isn't complete" without the bracelet. Does this statement have merit?

if its your only one you need a bracelet. I kind of like the 26 on a strap, but only if i had one or two on bracelets also. To me its an "in addition to" nautilus if you are looking at one one a strap.

cheers Tyler.
I was recently reading 5711R review on Hodinkee and he made exactly the same comment: Natuilus isn't complete without a bracelet.
Would love to have 5726 on a bracelet and rose gold 5712 on a strap or 5980R on a strap, but do have to start somewhere.

Gotta have a 5711 in a collection, doesn’t matter which one.

Plus, that RG is simply breathtaking.

I have both the 5726 on bracelet and the 5712R. I wear both on a reaular basis. The 5726 is more comfortable on most days. If the 5712 was on a deployant clasp similar to Breitling’s deployant, it would be more comfortable. I’ll say this about the bezel on the 5712r, I scratched the d#mn thing within 5 minutes of wearing it in my house!

did you make a choice? for the record, i would (And did) go with the 5711R... the brown dial is easily the nicest watch dial I've seen in decades. The gold is very understated for being a solid gold watch.

As a daily, 5726A. It's also an annual calendar allowing you to check the complete date.

But for sheer looks and attractiveness, 5711-1R of course!
