The cheaper one for me, couldn't afford the 12.

I can see no love for the 26, aka 5726?

I agree in the fact that strong resale has made the 12 more attractive recently since it won't lose money on a flip maybe pushing those on the fence into a purchase. It has made it more popular to buy based on financials no question. I doubt very many people though got one or the other that they didn't want because it was the only one they could get. Some people like both and cant decide and get the available one sure, but settling for 2nd choice I wouldn't do that and cant imagine many would.

Not here. The 5711 never really interested me. When I was looking for the next iconic piece, it came down to between the 5711 and 15202 when the 5711 was still obtainable. I chose the 15202 in the end as the 5711 didn't excite me.

Given the choice today if offered both by an AD and money aside, I would easily pick the 5712. I like the "collected chaos" of the dial, the 240 movement, and the fact that there's more going on (less likely to be bored in the long run.) I only wish I decided to pull the trigger earlier on, and I regret passing on the few opportunities I've had to buy them since they've skyrocketed in price. In September, I thought 36K was too much to pay for BNIB sealed, but how wrong I was.

The 5711 is many times a first Patek bought because Rolex Sports models dominate the industry and those potential owners who look for a versatile and sporty option within the brand have limited choices. The Nautilus is a gateway drug to get into the brand and higher complications. I dont believe guys are settling on a 5712 because they cant get a 5711 especially when it is $8360 more.

No way is one "settling" for a 5712 with the complications and the 240 movement.

The dial is not for everyone, but I love it.

I love it as well! A gentleman on here stated most people who have the 5712 bought because they could not get a 5711 which I politely disagree with.

Grey prices are now in the 40s.

I am hopeful however, that I will get one at MSRP from an AD that told me they could deliver by year-end.

I thought oh, that's very good... until I realised we are in Jan.

Well above $45K here.

Once were so beautiful... and yet many times in the past have I railed against paying that much for a basic steel three-hander... times they sure are a changing.

Shall I make a new thread announcing the lead up to the incoming?

Of course, knowing my luck, I'll have the rug pulled under me, or it'll come in and it'll have to be served up a-la-mode.

your 5712 journey would make for excellent reading, as long as it comes in the end

5711 for me - it's the closest thing we have to Genta's original masterpiece.

Too bad current market prices means I'll never be an owner.

I love both, but I ended up going with a 5712.... For me, the dial is unique, I quite like the moon complication and the micro rotor/movement is just more interesting.

That said, the 5711 really drives the "less is more" value IMO .. There is something to be said for how perfectly straight forward that watch is.. Completely under the radar, but if you study it, you realize it's far from straight forward/simple and actually incredibly detailed..

Both are incredible pieces, but I go 12 :)

I was lucky enough to get a 5711 already. Getting a 5712 hopefully soon. I'm feeling like I'm going to keep both watches and continue my Patek obsession.... also have a 5164 now. My goodness this sickness is BAD!!!

That would make a great trio of Patek sports watches.

I understand what you're going through. Within a short period, I have accumulated quite a number of PP. Yes, seems like an obsession........but PP watches are all so nice. First I started with a 5726. Then a 5711. Of course, if you have a 5711, you must have a 5712.

I understand your feeling. Seems like an obsession too to me but PP watches are all so nice.
I think most would not stop at one. I started off with 5726. Then 5711. When you have the 5711, you must have the 5712.
And then PP start creating something nice and your yearning begin again....ha ha.....

I remember being drawn into the dial of the 5712 at a time that I didn’t yet appreciate the nautilus. A number of years and a couple of Pateks later, I had to have it. Seems like the little guy might have the same experience!

I can confirm that 60m WR is suitable for slobber!
