Hey,

My 1970s submariner has suddenly started to have a strange rattle whenever i move my wrist, it sounds like there are a couple of bits that are not attached/loose. It also stops if I take it off and put it face down. However when it is working, it keeps good time.

It hasn't been serviced in at least 7 years.

Should I stop wearing it immediately?

I would normally just send it off to get it serviced/repaired, however I live in the British Virgin Islands, and there is nowhere in the BVI to repair it.

Does anyone know of anywhere in the USVI that could repair it? It's an easy day trip there from where I live.

If not, if I have to send it to the US, where do I send it and would I have to pay import/export charges as well?

Your rotor axle is loose worn out or outright broken do not continue to use as more damage will result from metel on metal contact. Rikki Time for a service

The U.S. Virgin Islands are an independent customs territory from the mainland United States, but operate largely as a free port. U.S. citizens thus do not have to clear customs when arriving in the U.S. Virgin Islands, but do when traveling to the mainland. Ergo, shipping a Rolex to the US may be an issue. Try calling one of the RSCs to get their advice. Otherwise try finding a watchmaker with a Rolex parts account near you. I've heard you can ship into the US if it's clearly labeled and documented as a repair but I've never tried it myself.
