Ah, for me it's important to know what all the options are. Takes time, but I'm willing to do it. Besides I hate just hate that tongue that isn't stitched down on the Indies. Sure wish I knew that before I got my pair. It can be corrected but I still don't like it. Besides I like my Vibergs a lot better. Ah, the mistakes I made. But the good thing is I found out what it is and why it is I like those things I do.

Its an Iron Ranger.

One drawback as far as I am concerned is the leather sole. But you can fix that if you wish.

Ignorance is bliss.

You don't need to spend $600+ to get a good quality pair of boots.

Clearly dddress is a style forum guy, so instinctively he is going to suggest the best. It certainly doesn't mean that is all that is out there, and it certainly doesn't mean it is the right suggestion for everyone.

Some lines of Wolverine boots aren't what we see normally. Heck even the Redwing store where I live doesn't sell their better boots but the only way you would know would be to do some research.

Good to know about the tongue not being stitched. I bought a nice pair of Daytons years back and the tongue is not stitched so it migrates to one side after a few hours. Drives me crazy actually.

Well you can fix it, but it just hasn't been at the top of my list. But seriously for $100 I would at least look at Vibergs. Do have a look at Truman although as I said I have concerns about them that I would have to go back and see how they are doing. Very often the new popular guy on the block gets hammered and quality can reflect that. Not that they weren't good they just got hammered and couldn't keep up. I would think it's ben a few years and by now they were able to staff accordingly and adjust to the current demand.

Of all the boot sites I have visited so far I have to say the Viberg service boots really impress me. I emailed them to ask about widths because I have no clue how to use their site and go by last’s etc. Here is a link

I'll just put in another plug for a site where users talk about all things Viberg to include the various Lasts and how to size and what their experiences have been. It can take awhile to go through but I found it valuable. Given the current size I would probably recommend working my way backwards for the most current stuff.

Yeah, no issues here and hope you had none either. Just the boot geek in me coming out.

Yeah, and typically there's a difference and that would be more than just them being cheaper. Good boots either way, just saying. Put them side by side and not just on the screen and you would know what that difference would be. If not go cheaper by all means.

You can choose to pay whatever it is and as much as you like but if they don't fit no money in the world going to change that. And if they don't fit and I've seen many do so, you might as well take that loss. Ill fitting shoes or boots just don't make for a very good day.

Yea I’m finding out that most of the makers use size E or D lasts which typically are going to be too wide for me. Alden has some B widths but very select. I spoke to Viberg and they said they use E last but with me needing to most likely downsize the shoe it should be better. I’m still concerned. I guess that is what sucks about living far away from a big city, you can’t try much stuff on without traveling a few hours

I am very happy with my Crockett and Jones Islays. So much so, that I have a pair that I wear while hunting/camping, and a pair that I can wear to the office during the chillier months.

I have never heard of Viberg, even though they are Canadian and I have never seen the Oak St ones either so personally I can't compare on quality or construction , but visually they do seem similar.

I really like a pair of those C&J in their website. I might call the NY store and ask about fit etc

You wear a $800 pair of dress boots hunting? Only on the Rolex forums.

to you man.

And thanks to this thread, now I am searching for a new pair of boots for myself. Probably going to give Thursday Boot Company a try. I know, plebe status for most on this forum, but for me, the law of diminishing returns kicks in at around the $300 price point for footwear.

I 100% recommend Bally Boots. Sir Ed Hilary wore them with his rolex on his ascent. I love my bally boots. I like their shoes and coats etc, but their boots are on another level.

No no no man I’m right with you. It’s crazy prices for sure but on some things I allow myself to splurge and shoes are one of them. I will probably buy a pair of Thursday’s also as the have a black pair I really like.

I don't have any first hand experience with Thursday, but online reviews seem to be favorable for the most part. I am eyeing up the Vanguard Cap Toe in burnt copper.

Out of all the brands discussed, I tend to favor Alden and Viberg for casual/street wear. EG and C&J make great boots, but I find them too "dressy" for my normal daily wear. The Indy boot is a classic and you can't go wrong with it if that's what you want. I would spend the extra $100 and go Viberg as the quality in construction and leather is noticeably better. Sizing may be an issue if you have not tried on any of these brands so get some help before you buy.
